Urusei Yatsura (the one with Lum in it) came out before I was born, but I've been watching it and absolutely love the style. Currently on episode 106.
Whatever anyone wants to say about it, I think it's aged very well (the animation style has a unique charm to it you can't find elsewhere). And old school tropes, I find, can be a welcome change from the modern tropes.
Also whoever the licensing studio was that did the english subs for UY did a brilliant job of them. (animeigo, now that I checked)
They took tons of liberties in the translation, but they were all witty and fitting.
A fair amount of generic episodes, just like with Ranma, but the good ones are really good IMO. Such a well-spring of creativity, UY is. And the synthy soundtrack would appeal to any classic video gamer, or people who like Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Kitaro, Tangerine Dream, etc.

Am I the only person who gets tired of new anime cliches sometimes and actually enjoys checking out the older ones? They call them "classics" for a reason. Variety is the spice of life people...
I would also recommend Future Boy Conan for those uninitiated in old-school. Hayao Miyazaki's most famous tv series (yes the same guy who did all the Ghibli films).

One: You really dont know anime.
Two: You dont know Lupin.
Three: The first thing that came to your mind was new anime.
Four: 2ch community is full of otaku not anime fans.
And the last and probably the most important reason is because the title is called Characters You'd like to have SEX with" not which characters are hot or cute or even just fuckable. Diminishing down most of people's guesses, hence why Faye Valentine wasnt there, and why over popular hot babes arent there, they are just sex appeal. Oh and not to mention Personality is in there, hence why Rei scored higher than Asuka, Asuka is more popular to westeners and vice versa with Rei.

Android 18 is there because when aside from today's culture of kids, when we were growing up DBZ was one of the most popular anime and she was HOT. Bulma was too IMO but that was in Dragonball and well Dragonball had been long gone when I grew up, plus she lacked personality. AS for the last two watch the anime and look at her personalities and see if you dont want to throw yourselves at them.

These days there are too much "Oh I am an otaku thus I know everything I need to know (from 4chan that is)" syndrome without them actually knowing anything about the original culture and series that defined all of this. Most of the time these people defines the word "Otaku" specifically towards animes and mangas whereas the original meaning was "a particular obsession towards a certain hobby/behaviour" thus why there are many subgenre of otakus in Japan (AniOta, GameOta, DenshaOta, etc...). The fact that most of the people here don't know about Android 18 and why she is famous shows that they are really out of sequence with the original Japanese culture, the same one that they really wants to emulate but can't. Instead they pick up on memes that is created by westerners that thinks it's the real "otaku way" like flatchested preferences and being a loner. Most of the AniOta I talked to in Japan has a life, just that the hikkikomori side of things are now being manipulated because it sells.

I have to agree with you on some parts. Ur right that Rei goes before Asuka because of their distinct personalities (Asuka being the one you like to tame as a pet a.k.a. bi7ch taken for a walk). Seems like for the most part the 2channers know what their talking about, although they've dated themselves with some of the pics. Also, it seems a bit disturbing that just about the whole female cast of the Melancholy are on the top ten list. Variety would be nice. My top ten wouldn't look anything like this but for Fujiko, Rei, Misato and Mikuru surviving the shuffle (this will not be posted). All in all, a solid list.

While I would personally put Haruhi herself below the rest of the Haruhi cast, the list overall is pretty solid as far as characters go. I can also totally abide by Fujiko being the top cat. Classic beauty never goes out of style.
I'd say this list is full of win just because Fujiko is not only on it, but first, above all the moe/loli/underage/unsexy girls. BUT, the lack of Mai Shiranui or any other video game woman makes me sad.

The picture for Lum is not actually Lum, someone messed up. Lum has green hair, not pink and the face doesn't resemble Lum's. The only person from Urusei Yatsura I can think of that looks like the girl in the picture is Ran and I can't imagine that most Japanese people would pick her over Lum.
