Final Fantasy XIII 2009 Japan Release Date Confirmed

The latest promotional event supporting the release of long awaited PS3 (and soon after, Xbox 360) killer app Final Fantasy XIII has officially dated the game for a 2009 winter release in Japan.
If they keep to their schedule, this will mean international releases to follow in early 2010 (sadly they did not opt for a simultaneous release), as well as the Xbox 360 port (but not for Japan) thereafter.
Square has been hugely reluctant to put any date on the game prior to this, so observers are confident they will not have too much difficulty reaching the date, and do after all have a playable beta they are happy to show off.

And now I know for certain this game will be bland. Hideo Kojima stated that it was impossible to transfer MGS4 to the 3.6.0. because of not only its size, but what was done within the software. Perhaps that's debatable, but the news that this game will be showing up on the RRoD bods real doubt in me for any true technological breakthru in regards to the company.
I'm sick of characters being melded into one for traveling, I'm tired of three team battles, and I'm wore out by emo thick narratives and over done "End of the World" climatic crescendos. I want characters to change by my actions and have the story reflect it. I want a little western influence and mix it up a bit of Fallout 1~2 into it and be allowed to make a moronic tank flub up or save the world from evil whatevers! Maybe a devilish politician with and teleprompter ghost to amaze the masses before destroying them all! A rock star who delved into the occult of (insert here) and spew stupid dribble about how the man created crystal power sources of the land is robbing us of trees and little club seals!
That's what I want now and this little preety bubble of a bubble gum just doesn't feel like it'll do it now.

It's awhile off. I'll need to get a ps3 before it comes out. Anyway I just found out that Dissidia is coming out at the end of august in america. That should keep me busy till i can get my hands on xiii.

well all that's good with square-enix is now mistwalker so the new name is "lost odyssey". honestly i doubt that will get a sequel. so they'll have different names from now. if this ff fails then im not going to se for games anymore. it so isnt square-enix that did anything good but everything was sakakguchi after all he hasn't been with square since what ffx. then he ran off and made mistwalker and lost odyssey beat ffxii hands down after all.

man... i really miss the old FF series's gameplay (i.e. FF-FF9. FF10 and onwards are getting off track). and this FFXIII is getting worst, i actually stopped playing FF from X-2 because of the new stupid fighting/battle system.

in what dimension is the gameplay in FFVII/VIII even nearly the same as FF-FFIV/FFIX?
plus FFX-2 used a system much like FFV... heck, even FFX used some kind of modification/amalgamation of a FFIII/IV system
huh? i have no clue what u're talking about. FF-FF10 all have similar "traditional" RPG fighting system. i.e., not those action/moving types in FF11 or FF12...

the girl at the top looks like a new rendition of rikku from ff x-2, however i love the look of this game and the winter 09 will mean that it will be out in japan around the 21st to 31st of december as they have had succecful slaes from this time before, and as for the rest of the world on ps3 we should get it around this time next year then a little while after that for the xbox probably.

FF9 was the last real FF, 10 was handicaped 12 gets some things right but equipment is bland and skills broken... I hope 13 finally gets some new DNA of it...being a bastard child of rich siblings dose not make for a good FF game....

that honestly looks like what they did with lost odyssey. shit was so awesome at the opening battle but, after the first battle it went straight back to the whole my line vs. your line gig. most likely its combat is going to be sick the first ten minutes then fall back to what 12 looked like.
What the hell was so awesome about the first battle?! You get a really cool FMV that segues into a fight (while everybody takes a break to watch it seems) with one of the silliest robots I've ever seen, and of which I beat by ATTACK.. DEFEND.. ATTACK.. DEFEND.. SUPER ATTACK.. DEFEND.. ad nauseuming it to fall apart.

I enjoyed Lost odyssey. The first battle was awesome, but then it slowed for a bit. It was more of a roller coaster with it's ups and downs.

i think thats just because no one was paying attention to the ps2 at the time if they made it a ps3 release then it would have sold better. or if they did what theyre doing noweveryone has this"ZOMG MULTICONSOLE RELEASE" "LOL ECKSBAWKS IS SO GETTING TROLLED" and realy just a bunch of nonsenseical buzz going on around it. most likly a top seller now sense everyone has either or console as well.

i had a ps3 when 12 came out. id have rather played it on ps3 than a ps2 and could honestly care less about the ps2.

theyre not exactly the same though i believe the ps3 is getting more content though i wouldnt put it past the to release it as dlc to milk it for cash.
According to Square, they are both going to be exactly the same content wise. Just the 360 version isn't coming to Japan.
ps3 is getting versus.
The PS3 version will be in HD and the Xbox will not. Also the PS3 version will come on 1 blu-rey DVD and the xbox will come in about 7 DVDs. and don't forget that the xbox version is a PS3 port, so I wouldn't say they are the same, not in the slightest.

Winter 2009 clearly means Q4 Fiscal Year 2009 = Jan-Mar 2010.
So when a specific date has to be said, they will say something like 21 of March.
And of course the inevitable delay will come on around the end of January which will delay their Q3 financial report due to some changes to their forecast for Q4.
If people don't understand a word I'm saying, then just look towards Dragon Quest IX.
Final Fantasy XIII confirmed for a July 2010 release in Japan (hopefully without any "unscheduled" delays).
even if they get it ready by then theyll save it for a winter release definatly.

360 version is only for outside of Asia.
This decision was most likley taken as the best way to max profit is to also reach the western market, and the best way to do that is through the 360.
So yeah, when the game is released in the US and Europe, both 360 and PS3 versions will be out at the same time.
As for the news, not really fussed. Usually we have a 6 month wait for a US release, and then another 3 for a European release, so it's along way off yet.
Also, the last few FF games have been crap, especially 12, so I'm not really all that excited about this. Hopefully SE have returned to form with this latest effort.

so true, story wise FFXII isn't that good, but it's definitely one of the best FFs in terms of gameplay
it's a trend to bash anything thats different from the norm, some people still bash FFXII for being realtime, while others bash any new RPG that ISN'T realtime... yeah, go figure -_-
people can't judge things for what they are, FFVII still is a great RPG, and my favorite still is FFVIII but that doesn't mean i can't appreciate any other FF, or any other RPG for that matter..

i agree that things should evolve for the better, but evolve and enchance in things that need enhancement (e.g. graphics) the traditional FF gameplay and storyline structure was what made the game a success. that should be left untouched, or at least not alter it so much that put most of the existing customers off. if the want to make a realtime RPG, make it under a different name or something.
