the episode caught my attention too.
a lot packed into one half hour. very impressive.

or more accurately, it depends on your taste.
Basically the genre is different, the styling is different, and probably the target market is different.
As of right now, both exhibit a high production value.. I personally likes both of these animes.
If I have to choose one to own, I would choose K-ON just because this kind of anime have more replay value compared to anime like Eden of the East.
If I have to judge the overall quality, probably I would choose Eden of the East because this kind of anime have deeper story than something like K-ON.
I don't see how a person could choose K-On over Eden unless they're a moefag.
Try and understand the concept that there are such things called opinions and preferences.

Well I personally thought the first episode was excellent, great art quality ( not in the levels of okaeri), intriguing storyline and likable characters. I wouldn't call it the best of the season(that'll be decided once it's over), but it's a very very promising start
Best first ep of the season by far.
The question is if it can keep this sort of quality up.
If so then we could have a real winner on our hands.
The better show of this season.
