Series that revolve around playing a game (whether it's a sport or gambling) rely heavily on a good director to maintain a sense of heavy suspense, and a good sense of when to capitalize on the right moments to reveal strategic or technical revelation, either about the opponent's playing or the protagonist's playing.

Etc.

They can be really great shows when done well. Saki hasn't showed me if it will be one of those yet, however.

So their next step now is to show bare asses now? Reminds me of Garei and Shikabane Hime. Apparently there's no need to censor bare asses. You know what the next trend in fashion will be. Skirts that are long in the front, non-existant in the back. Panties will be just a piece of tape you put in the front.
