Well, phooey, I'm a person who knows how to play Mahjong.
I can't play mahjong, and this series has many similarities to most random-person-has-hidden-super-talent-in-random-attribute-therefore-becoming-famous type series.
However... I don't know whether it's the fanservice or the mahjong, but I'm with ya there, I liked this series too :S
Being gonzo, I wonder if they'll apply similar themes to the images above in their DVD marketing ploy XD

Its kinda obvious whats coming in for DVD release.. I didn't really enjoy the anime. Maybe cause I dunno mahjong. But even if I did, I can't think of any plot for mahjong playing..

Series that revolve around playing a game (whether it's a sport or gambling) rely heavily on a good director to maintain a sense of heavy suspense, and a good sense of when to capitalize on the right moments to reveal strategic or technical revelation, either about the opponent's playing or the protagonist's playing.
Etc.
They can be really great shows when done well. Saki hasn't showed me if it will be one of those yet, however.
