Korea, Kingdom of Plastic Surgery

As you can see from the detailed comparison below, Korea’s reputation for being a nation whose womenfolk have embraced plastic surgery to an unprecedented degree is far from undeserved.
There are some rather impressive examples of surgical enhancement on display, with results which put to shame some of the efforts of Japanese idols…
Of course, another contributing factor must the application of Photoshop to the later professionally taken pictures, though this can only account for so much.

Since when do Korea's women have this reputation? You say to anyone anywhere in the world "Name a country you associate with plastic surgery" and they'll all say "America".
Try saying it to an East Asian.
Korean
This is depressing. I guess humans really are that superficial.
And like many people have pointed out, sure you hide your ugliness beneath fake plastic, but what about your kids? You have a strong chance of passing the ugly gene to them, so they're not gonna be any better.
Also, women have been "fixed up" to look pretty WITHOUT the need for plastic surgery. All those makeover shows where they just do common things like redo your hair, put on some light makeup, change your wardrobe, etc. That stuff can do wonders without making you look like a Barbie doll.
the second to the last pic is Honey Lee.Miss Korea contestant to Miss Universe 2007.I beg to disagree that Korea is a kingdom to plastic surgery, how about Latin American countries? They've won loads of beauty contests but they keep a mum if their delegate done enough surgery that make Michael Jackson a shoo-in.
those bitches have too much money!!!
Just Wondering how South Korea is "Kingdom of Plastic Surgery" when according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Korea is ranked 27th for plastic surgery per capita. 19 out of every 100,000 people. USA is ranked 19th (30 per 100,000 people). Japan is ranked 18th (33 per 100,000 people).
Venezuela is No.1?
say what you want, i would totally do it if there were no risk of horrible disfigurement. how much would it be worth to you to be beautiful for once? more than my college tuition, that's for sure.
From what I can tell, double-eyelid surgery in Asia is like getting braces in America.
I have 15 friends who have gotten double-eyelid surgery. And since you brought in ethnicity, I'll break it down: 7 are Korean, 4 are Chinese, 1 is Vietnamese/Chinese and 3 are Japanese. I'll soon be adding to that number. I'm the only damned person in my family to not get double-eyelids! How fugly and ridiculous is that? Even my twin sister has double-eyelids. -__-;
This explains a lot. When I went to South Korea over Christmas, I was SHOCKED to see so many HOT HOT HOT women everywhere! On the subway, in the shops, in cars... everywhere! Now I understand why.
Whatever boosts your self-esteem...
From eating crystals and inhaling vespene gas to banning Hetalia, and NOW THIS?!!!
It's really not that surprising. For a country that beats it's offspring to a pulp on a regular basis, both in the homes and especially in school, perfecting plastic surgery is an effective way to restore the damage on those who actually survive their childhood.
lol man made beauty -,-
I didn't notice, the 3rd to the last pic was pointed from a guy?
I actually feel that picture is a horrible example...she could have simply grown up <.< and started using make up.
the last one looks like kim jong ll.
more asians trying to look white, how sad
Because asian guys rarely seen with white women?
Asian people are just ... ugly. No way you can fix that with plastic surgery.
They can't stay within 1 metre from a CRT monitor or TV set, as it degrades the silicon inside their bodies lol.
It's true! I saw it in Scary Movie 2!!
완전 변신을했네 ㅋ 이런건 어디서퍼왔데 ㅋ..
FTW
Last person in the picture was total WTF?!??!
Sad really. No one wants to look like themselves and even if there is nothing wrong with them, they still opt to make "enhancements." When face-plant surgery is mastered why don't we all swap our faces to look like our favorite celebrities? People need to be less shallow and superficial. If you think you're happy because people think you look better, then you don't really know how to be happy.
did you not see the movie, FACE-OFF!!
到此一游~
hello
it is so hard to find this web~!
preet good~!!
中国人~
Beauty is only skin deep, though admittedly most people can't see through human skin.
I also happen to notice that the pre-surgery photos are invariably of far worse quality than the photos taken after surgery. False advertising, yes?
What's wrong with this? If they look better then its all good. I dunno bout' u, but I wouldn't even look at those in the before pics
noooes, I refuse to believe that the lovely kim ah-joong had surgery TT__TT
I think some of the above photos are results of digital editings (in other words, photoshopping) and the use of makeups.
I think you are right.
There is plastic surgery in Korea, but there is hardly enough to warrant it as "Kingdom of Plastic Surgery". A piece by BAPRAS (GB's plastic surgery association) estimates that 35% of all women in Iran have plastic surgery (mostly nosejobs). I'm sure many women in Korea have plastic surgery, but I've never seen an estimate as high as 35% before. O_o
I agree here.
Korea's embrace of plastic surgery is hardly 'unpresidented', also. Just look at Iran and the Hollywood-ish bits of America.
I've got no figure, though.
Plus the 'before' pictures remind me of the ones weight watchers always use, where they find the ones with the worst haircuts etc deliberately.
>unprecedented
Fix'd.
I think a MAJORITY of women who can do plastic surgery in korea would do it, even with the small stuff like double eyebrow or nose job or something.
Personally, I would never go under, cos its scary, and I like the body and the face god gave me :D
/narcissist
What's the point of doing a nose job when they cover their face all the time.
They don't cover their faces, you dumbass. In fact, the face is the only part of the body that shows.
but they can't change their genes
Only a matter of time before we can.
I used to be involved in biotech education. Among the courses we did was one where school kids get to combine the DNA strands of their choice into wheat. Depending on which strands they choose, the wheat will glow green or blue in the dark.
This is akin to a basic electronic hobby kit where you make a light bulb light up. It is only a matter of time before the more complex 'assemble your own computer' kits show up... followed by a biotech future.
behold the power of science
there's a less painful alternative to this, it's called photoshop~
They want to look the same in real life so photoshop won't work.
This reminded me of a Korean girl I know. I think she is cute but she said she want to do a lot of plastic surgery when she have enough money save. She wanted to change her eyes, nose, chin, even ears. Mostly everything about her. She even said she want to change her voice which I thought was strange. I kept asking why because I think she looks cute. She just say she want to and don't think she is cute. She even say once she has the surgery done she would destroy her old pictures even baby picture so no one would ever see her real face. I just think it's kind of sad. I think she looks fine the way she is. She just have the typical Asian eyes but it's not like it's a bad thing.
I call bullshit on the 2nd set of pics, there's no way that :3 queen used to be that bitch.
Some of those girls don't look like they got surgery but a hell of a ton of makeup. If you wash their face, the monster is revealed.
In totally unrelated news, I'm in the market for a plasticized Korean love-slave.
wow, who ever was the plastic surgeon of those ladies did a great job
Does this also apply to the teen J-Idols..? Or Japanese's simple makeovers are just too good?
From what i heard, Koreans believe that doing a plastic surgery to enlarge their eyes will repel prosperity and good luck.
dude.. the whole world is blind if they can't see that ALL women who are in Celebrity status, undergoes plastic surgery one part of another. Those who deny it , or make excuses saying " i didn't do THAT much plastic surgery"...is all full of rat shiet. Japan, korea, china, usa , and every fuckin nation is Ridiculous in there plastic surgery.. they need to stop pointing fingers saying who does what most , and etc.. damn hypocrites.
Technically.. those who didn't even go through plastic surgery are full of shit too! because "make-up" is some ridiculous ass shit too. Before and after with make-up and not, makes a substantial difference.
All in all, every pretty girl isn't natural.. they are ALL fake... Unless they are truly blessed.
Well, well.. why do I get the feeling that Sankakucomplex.com is more and more headed towards an Anti-Korean website that hails Japan as the greatest place on earth?
Why not change the name and put the site up as "yasukunicomplex.com"?
Actually, you'll start to see more Korean-based articles as I plan to add it as an area of coverage. So you'll begin to see Japan and Korea in equally "bad" lights.
Btw, I agree with Artefact in that the bizarre stories about Japan doesn't exactly burnish its image, and Sankaku has far more coverage of Japan than any other country.
Yeah... Negative coverage... All in the name of more pageviews... :(
Guess I should stop trolling...
Quite so.
Yes. and no.
I never take it as indicative of the actual world/times.
I see your stories in the same light. It's always the uncommon or unusual that gets the most attention; simply because it's something that is seldom seen or heard. No one would read an article dealing with computers being able to surf the web; it's something that happens everyday, it's common, it's the way news works.
Ever watched the evening news?
Yeah, because Artefact never posted anything worse than this about Japan.
Before the trolls are unleashed, that was sarcasm.
Really, theirs barely any articles about Korea anything on sancom.
Yes.
It's pretty telling that the Korean lurkers never bother to click the dozens and dozens of "lolJapan" or "lolChina" posts.
A couple of "lolKorea" posts gets shoved into the mix and suddenly they call anti-Korean bias.
Talk about hypocrisy.
Rubbish.
You might want to open your eyes and consider that a significant proportion of the stories here deal with bizarre Japanese crimes and maniacal subcultures, none of which are exactly likely to paint Japan in a favourable light.
Just how many posts here are there that "hail Japan as the greatest place on earth"? None I think.
Just Wondering how South Korea is “Kingdom of Plastic Surgery” when according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Korea is ranked 27th for plastic surgery per capita. 19 out of every 100,000 people. USA is ranked 19th (30 per 100,000 people). Japan is ranked 18th (33 per 100,000 people).
yeah Japan is the GREATEST nation in the earth no, the universe. In fact, putting it into words does not do its greatness any justice at all. Just submit to their greatness. The Koreans (GOOKS) ARE LIARS and less then human beneath pigs no ants. Anyone who disagrees should DIE a horrible death.
Yea what IS wrong with you? I love Korea just as much as Japan and they BOTH have faults, just like any other country. 시끄러워!
the hells wrong with you?
go read the previous 210+ pages of achieve, report back when you do
Plastic girls are rubbish, do not want. natural for me.
Enjoy your viginity.
Same lawl.
How will you be able to tell the difference?
Scars. You have to look for them awfully well nowadays. As technology has made scars almost completely unnoticeable.
Anyways, I am of the belief that if you are comfortable in your own skin, you are A-O.K. with me. If you feel you need to cut your face to even fit in society, you are still O.K., It's just I will have lost a bit of vigor that your appearance isn't representative of what your actual genetic code will be.
Your kids will still be ugly; no amount of plastic surgery can alter that.
The fact that people have to resort to cutting their own face is kind of indicative of what the human race as a whole will do to succeed.
"Your kids will still be ugly; no amount of plastic surgery can alter that."
I don't think this applies universally. My neighbors' daughter is drop dead gorgeous, while her parents are... well let's just say they're not. The point I'm trying to make is that the ability to produce pretty offspring isn't necessarily related to how beautiful the parents are.
I very much agree with your last paragraph, though I don't think that this must inherently be a bad thing.
Our mail"man" is female, actually...
>> while her parents are… well let’s just say they’re not
how's the mailman lookin' ?
Actually your dead gorgeous neighbor has her parents genetic code, so maybe in a few years she's gonna turn ugly... See the aging idols entry.
you know what they say two ugly people make a good looking kid XD
Don't see why that is a problem, if that is the point being made. Of course, there are wrong reasons to get plastic surgery, but if they are simply doing it for themselves, more power to them.
But man, that must be as lucrative of a business there as in California, you'd make a killing.
나도 이나라가 맘에들지않아
미투
ㅎㅎ
Nowhere in the piece was the practice condemned or condoned.
동감입니다. 특히 학교 시스템이 최악
Plastic surgery done properly is simply amazing(of course I also seen many horrible surgery), sometimes a little make up can totally change a person's look as well.
We need more professional make up artists and plastic surgeon, make the world pretty again.
Then what would be the point of being born pretty? Humans are not equal, simple as that.
What an profoundly stupid thing to say, "point to being pretty???". Point implies effort and purpose, whereas, beauty is *for the most part* determined by genetics.
Humans are not equal? What exactly is your point? If people want to change their appearance, what business is that of yours?
This would be like saying, "What would be the point of playing soccer if everybody in the world was good at soccer?" Uhhh.......
Regardless of what you think, beauty isn't a competition.
you'd be surprised...
Exactly, humans aren't born equal. The rich ones become pretty through plastic surgery. Or, depending on how good it turns out, they just turn into Micheal Jackson.
Well Micheal Jackson was actually pretty good looking without the surgery but with the emotional abuse from his father caused him to want to change his face. but sadly during the time he did his first plastic surgery the technique was still new.
They don't need to be equal, they just need to be pretty ;).
What would be the point? To save the surgery money that is ^^.
얍실하게 생긴걸 좋아함
Antagonist View... but...
If everyone is pretty, there would be much less people to look down on. Look at a teenager's normal middle school life. They are going through what they believe to be the worse thing in the world. Looking at an ugly person, they can go "Least I don't look like him/her" and cheer up a bit.
Of course not a good reason in the slightest, its a reason regardless.
What do you mean, "Again"?
Koreans sure are good, especially with the last picture.
The last picture remind me of some self-proclaim glorious leader far up north of Seoul.
Wow, those eye surgeries really did wonders for the girls. Though the hair stylists, make-up artists and wardrobe consultants helped too. I didn't say personal trainers because of possible tummy tucks and such (not lipo because asian girls usually don't have juicy booties to suck fat from).
Though I'm against plastic surgery for this reason: if I married a chick that had plastic surgery, I'd feel cheated because I've been duped into what my offspring's gene pool has to offer. Yes, I really do care about that.
That's not to say I wouldn't ride those girls till dawn just for fun.
Well, maybe a shot of your own genes will improve the gene pool.
If they don't, blame your weak ass genes!
simple.
get plastic surgery for your ugly offsprings.
Or simply never have offspring!
Adoption is another alternative, if you must have little creatures scurrying around the house.
You actually make a rather interesting point...
I like girl in red...
last pic looks like the north korean leader.. who was it again?
Now that you mention it... let's just hope that he doesn't get into plastic surgery. I don't want to see the results.
Mao Zedong. :P
Kim Ill.
ROFL!!!! ^^
So North Korea's plot to take over the world involved cute traps???
