Korea, Kingdom of Plastic Surgery

korean-plastic-surgery-crop.jpg

As you can see from the detailed comparison below, Korea’s reputation for being a nation whose womenfolk have embraced plastic surgery to an unprecedented degree is far from undeserved.

There are some rather impressive examples of surgical enhancement on display, with results which put to shame some of the efforts of Japanese idols…

Of course, another contributing factor must the application of Photoshop to the later professionally taken pictures, though this can only account for so much.

This is depressing. I guess humans really are that superficial.

And like many people have pointed out, sure you hide your ugliness beneath fake plastic, but what about your kids? You have a strong chance of passing the ugly gene to them, so they're not gonna be any better.

Also, women have been "fixed up" to look pretty WITHOUT the need for plastic surgery. All those makeover shows where they just do common things like redo your hair, put on some light makeup, change your wardrobe, etc. That stuff can do wonders without making you look like a Barbie doll.

From what I can tell, double-eyelid surgery in Asia is like getting braces in America.

    I have 15 friends who have gotten double-eyelid surgery. And since you brought in ethnicity, I'll break it down: 7 are Korean, 4 are Chinese, 1 is Vietnamese/Chinese and 3 are Japanese. I'll soon be adding to that number. I'm the only damned person in my family to not get double-eyelids! How fugly and ridiculous is that? Even my twin sister has double-eyelids. -__-;

It's really not that surprising. For a country that beats it's offspring to a pulp on a regular basis, both in the homes and especially in school, perfecting plastic surgery is an effective way to restore the damage on those who actually survive their childhood.

Sad really. No one wants to look like themselves and even if there is nothing wrong with them, they still opt to make "enhancements." When face-plant surgery is mastered why don't we all swap our faces to look like our favorite celebrities? People need to be less shallow and superficial. If you think you're happy because people think you look better, then you don't really know how to be happy.

There is plastic surgery in Korea, but there is hardly enough to warrant it as "Kingdom of Plastic Surgery". A piece by BAPRAS (GB's plastic surgery association) estimates that 35% of all women in Iran have plastic surgery (mostly nosejobs). I'm sure many women in Korea have plastic surgery, but I've never seen an estimate as high as 35% before. O_o

I used to be involved in biotech education. Among the courses we did was one where school kids get to combine the DNA strands of their choice into wheat. Depending on which strands they choose, the wheat will glow green or blue in the dark.

This is akin to a basic electronic hobby kit where you make a light bulb light up. It is only a matter of time before the more complex 'assemble your own computer' kits show up... followed by a biotech future.

This reminded me of a Korean girl I know. I think she is cute but she said she want to do a lot of plastic surgery when she have enough money save. She wanted to change her eyes, nose, chin, even ears. Mostly everything about her. She even said she want to change her voice which I thought was strange. I kept asking why because I think she looks cute. She just say she want to and don't think she is cute. She even say once she has the surgery done she would destroy her old pictures even baby picture so no one would ever see her real face. I just think it's kind of sad. I think she looks fine the way she is. She just have the typical Asian eyes but it's not like it's a bad thing.

Scars. You have to look for them awfully well nowadays. As technology has made scars almost completely unnoticeable.

Anyways, I am of the belief that if you are comfortable in your own skin, you are A-O.K. with me. If you feel you need to cut your face to even fit in society, you are still O.K., It's just I will have lost a bit of vigor that your appearance isn't representative of what your actual genetic code will be.

Your kids will still be ugly; no amount of plastic surgery can alter that.

The fact that people have to resort to cutting their own face is kind of indicative of what the human race as a whole will do to succeed.

I don't think this applies universally. My neighbors' daughter is drop dead gorgeous, while her parents are... well let's just say they're not. The point I'm trying to make is that the ability to produce pretty offspring isn't necessarily related to how beautiful the parents are.

Though I'm against plastic surgery for this reason: if I married a chick that had plastic surgery, I'd feel cheated because I've been duped into what my offspring's gene pool has to offer. Yes, I really do care about that.
