Anime Ita-Tattoo Mania

Anime and game themed tattoos seem to increasing in popularity, and here you can see numerous examples of such.
Unlike their Japanese counterparts, non-Japanese otaku seem ready to embrace the prospect of indelibly emblazoning the likeness of their favourite character onto their skin in an “ita-tattoo”, in much the same way as a monk might embrace his vow to celibacy, and with much the same effect.
The word ita-tattoo itself, combining the character for pain (ita), used as a prefix to denote a “painfully obsessive” line of interest (as with itasha), with “tattoo”, seems doubly appropriate considering the agonies induced by having needles lance ink into the subject’s dermis.

Well... It's supposed to be 噛み、not 神,
so whoever it is fails pretty hard. Other than that it's a respectable motif.

Tattoo Nagato looks surprisingly good.
Agreed. While I don't necessarily think ita-tatoos are the best idea, at least (some of) the victims have good taste.
+1
8 bit tattoos are much more appealing.
Agreed!
ALL FAIL!!! Except the Nagato one...
I feel sorry for the people that did this to themselves. Anime series are a fed (not anime as a whole!) which means most people won't recognize Inuyahsa or kenshin in 10 years. But that's a minor problem considering the never ending shame the people who did a Mario tattoo will have to live with through their lives...
Some people go to great lengths for their fandom.
Mario has been with us for 3 decades now. That's not a short amount of time. I personally know someone with a Betty Boop tatoo. I'm certain the number of people who have ever seen a Betty Boop cartoon is probably 1/10th or less compared to those who have seen Inuyasha or Kenshin.
wow suddnely i feel a lot less creapy for haveing both my legs done with anime tattoos neko asuka, rei, zeruel with the nerv symbol on the left leg and inuyasha, kagome, kikyo, sesshomaru on the right
i cant wait to get lucy with one of her vectors holding narutos head but i have to get the eva tat colored first
The 11'in Lum on my back is smiling at you all...
I'd like to have one with L froM Death note, or the NERV Logo.
I'd go with the NERV logo
I wasn't too surprised to see a Sailor Saturn tattoo among the pics. I thought seriously about getting a Sailor Saturn tattoo, but decided I'd wait a few years and see if I still wanted it. And while I still like the Sailor Moon series, I'm glad I did NOT get the tattoo.
What kinda ticks me off is that the more popular this kinda stuff gets, the more it looses appeal.
I remember a while back (about 7-8 yrs ago) I was thinking about getting a video game sleeve. Now it seems that every "video game geek" has them.
BAAAWWWWW!
those tattoos are pretty impressive. i liked the zelda stained glass motif tattoo
some of those gotta hurt...man look at detail. Hmm...*spies if photoshoped*
I see my wife! :)
The detail on the one of Haruhi is fantastic...
Not that I would get one myself, but kudos to the artist.
lots og GITS yeah. someone got good taste
I'd marry #16 despite her tattoo. Or maybe because of it, I'm after all, a sorry nerd. Also, 8-bit fighter wins the topic by far.
Really, i'm impressed. , collision repair estimates, medical equipment rental, 4 vinyl horse fence, breast lift south jersey,
11th,23rd,last 1 and the 1st 1 are nice O_O
That one of Eureka really fails.
Fuck, I want an 8 bit tattoo now.
I'm off to find a suitable sprite.
I dislike tattoos, but I HATE otaku tattoos. So... ugh.
You said it. I really hate tattoos too. It really disgusting. Anything about tattoos gonna make me sick.
That Zelda tatoo is as epic as ever.
Also, Yuki Nagato approved.
Loving most of those. The Haruhi one looks scarily shiney. Still uber awesome though.
The last one is most awesome. Simple, but so cool. Its like the little stars people get. It's not going totally overboard lol.
It's shiney cause it's new. The tat itself is gonna fade in color as the wound heals. The only good one I see from the list is the Nintendo theme full sleeve. The color stayed vibrant and the lines are clean. However some of the tats need to go back and demand a touch up or money back.
Some of them not so good looking tattoos might be a fake (sticker), especially those glossy looking ones.
Notice that the people who get those types of tattoos are fat and unattractive. Not to mention, hairy.
That doesn't work with tattoos.
Tattoos just don't look good on men who have absolutely zero muscle tone.
#23 is amazing. The zelda one. That must have taken ages. But I'm impressed with like 90% of them.
A lot of these are REALLY bad.
Something needs to be designed to fit onto the body, just being a good picture doesn't make it a good tattoo.
But the ones that are good really shine. I especially like the Midori one (20).
"emblazoning the likeness of their favourite character onto their skin in an “ita-tattoo”, in much the same way as a monk might embrace his vow to celibacy, and with much the same effect."
I lol'd.
Aside from liking or not the characters/series/games depicted... dude, WTF with the shitty "art" in 90% of those tattoos?
I mean, if you're going to be marked permanently, at least make sure it is good rendition of your favorite character, not just a mediocre drawing!
Precisely. Some of these are just poorly done, subject matter aside. The Zelda one is quite nice, again, putting aside the subject matter.
I will agree with you on this...
I have several tattoos myself, 3 total, and each I thought of several days and changed the designs several times over, to MAKE SURE that I wanted, because it will remain with you forever.
Now, I am 48 yrs of age... and I still thinking of getting another tattoo of some anime characters that I like. 3 mainly...
and I been reading that some (think).. regrets will settle in...
Well, not true, maybe for some, but, I have no regrets concerning the ones I already have.
and I am WAY beyond the norm here and I also wanted to state...
I am NOT fat, obese, or anything of that nature, nor am I a saggy skinned old man... nope far from it.
Art is art and some of the designs and works are VERY good, though some... well, I wonder, if they can be called artists... o.O
This is "why" one needs to be very careful on what they want as tattoo...
Just my 00.002 cents worth...
I've never really seen the appeal of tattoos in general to tell the truth.
Weaboo's don't feel special because nobody really likes them off of forums; thus they want to stand out and marr up their bodies with shit they probably won't like in 5, 10 years time.
Lucky Star is good, but will you really love it more than anything in 10 years time? What anime did you love 10 years ago, is it still your favourite enough to want it on your body 24/7? Idiots.
What anime still means something to me ten years later? Well it's been nearly 20 years since I started watching fansubs, most titles come and go, but some still remain special beyond just a good show. Arcadia of my Youth? Fuck yes. Laputa? Nausicaa? Honneamise? Adieu Galaxy Express 999? All of these have had a special place in my heart over the years.
I have never had much interest in getting a tattoo myself, but I can imagine someone using images from such shows and not regretting it much later-- provided they are done with skill and taste of course.
uh Dragonball Z?? nice try
because only weeaboos get tattoos
You're an idiot. Shut up.
butthurt tattoofag detected.
Depends on how much of a dedicated fan they are to that series. I still like Cardcaptor Sakura since 1999 and while everyone still likes Lucky Star, I got sick of it 3 months after it was finished. Also they can always try to remove their tatoos with lasers.
From what I hear getting your tattoos removed with lasers is expensive and insanely painful.
Quite a few wtf ones indeed, though some are impressive (though still crazy). The Zelda one is actually rather nice I have to admit.
Ugh, I really hate tattoos of faces. I prefer a symbolic meaning behind tattoos, although that Zelda/stained glass one looks good. I personally have contemplated getting a Triforce tattoo on my wrist.
Back pf the hand for me man thats what i'm thinkin of triforce on theback o my hand oh yeah. Also thinking of getting the classic magic symbol on my other hand. As well as some stuff on my head not sure what though.
i second on the zelda tatoo
it has that ancient feel to it..
I'd love to get a Zelda tattoo too, but a more simple motive. And I'd probably get it on my back. Arms/face/legs tattoos are so hard to hide, and I want to able to hide mine, in case I don't feel like showing it off.
The Hayate one is win, as well as the fighter and the Azumanga one.
The Rei's all look fairly terrible though.
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/wp-content/gallery/cache/34332__320x_anime-manga-game-ita-tattoo-24.jpg
That one is particularly cool.
Not something I would do though.
I know that in like 30 years, I would regret it.
If I had a digital camera, I could show mine.
I'd take the Azumanga cat one. Others are kinda meh. Really, inuyasha, what was he thinking. Inuyasha is not cool when you're fourty-year-old office worker.
Inuyasha is not cool. No matter where you work.
I think the first one was good, at least it had a good/cool choice of motive. But agreed, even if I think it IS kinda cool, I wouldn't get it myself. Because, like that other person said, in another 30 years it's not gonna be the same thing.
This is why Japan laughs at foreigners...
I don't know where you got that idea. Napalm wipes that smile right off of your face.
On the contrary actually, as skulls smile wider than any face can.
>___>
I want one of Belldandy, Urd, Skuld and their angels on my back.
Most of these just made me laugh.
Prospective gf/bf repelent if I ever saw it.
I'll stick to showing off my fandom in other geeky ways that don't include permanent ink on my skin
i'd hit it!
Id totally get one but probably nothing big... maybe just a konata on my back...
Just in case anyone couldn't read it, the kanji above the Azumanga cat says "kami" or "God".
Which make is ever more full of lulz.
Maybe because the cat is usually known as Kamineko?
Yes, but that's written using the kanji for "bite" (噛み猫).
Wouldn't ita be a prefix?
Typos...
most look good enough to be tattoos. im talking about the evangelion and GiTS ones and maybe that Ruruoni kenshin one, but the tiger from Hayate no Gotoku? goddamn
When they get old Haruhi's poor face is gonna be saggylishis
When they get old poor Haruhi will be all saggy
I have a full shoulder tattoo with Squall and Rinoa from FFVII, and let me tell you, I love this game for 10 years already, and I dont think I'd want this tattoo ever erased in my life.
And btw, if the pain of "needles lance ink into the subject’s dermis" is agony to you, than you dont know what pain is.
FFVIII, fixed
