heck it was funny i went to Tibet by train, a white Australian guy next to me never used bathroom in 4 days just because it is too filthy.

I'm not surprised really. It is very common for something like that happen in the country side of China. My dad's home town in Canton, China scared the hell out of when I saw the state of some the buses and bathrooms. >_<

Come to Canada (I can only speak for the Toronto area). The GO line is luxurious and the TTC is also very clean. Almost never crowded.

I've read that the usual chinese citizen can't care less about anything that doesn't involves them directly. You could poop 5cm away from someones doorstep, and it won't be his concern anymore, as an example. Don't know if its true, but this train sort of proves it.

How about you whip the people if they litter. They ought to change the people RIDING the train or they will never ever fix this problem. I've seen a picture once of a courthouse in China. The building looks all new and fantastic on the outside. Then you get into one of the courtrooms, and it's like what you saw in the train, except it's in an official building.

That is just messed up.
