Sexy acrobatic oppai anime Tetsuwan Birdy Decode: 2 has astonished fans by reaching a new level of animation quality. The seventh episode looks set to enter legend as a supreme expression of production quality taken to extremes:
Some are wondering whether DVD revisions will alter this quality to less legendary levels; there is some doubt about whether they will bother…
At least we still have some delectable images of the characters? As well as visually pleasing cosplay…

The idiocy in these posts just blows my mind. How could anyone with half a brain think even for a second that 4 minutes of crazy camera movement and action, along with completely different character design, are accidental? God, retards like you make my blood boil.
Rumored Minami-ke second and third season..
Gets people on edge!
lol. i dropped this after the 2nd ep in the first season.
lolwut A-1? O.o
it somehow reminds me of "Anno-style".
I think it's not 'just because' it's a memory sequence, those are parts of memory that is the most fuzzy to little Birdy (she even tried to deny that).
However, despite knowing it, I did twitch my eye a bit while watching the anime. I do hope to see it in a more normal style, it's going to look awesome.
If it's indeed a tactic to hit the deadline, I suppose they've chosen a good situation to back the decision.
What the hell? Am I the only one who thought it was amazing? Yes, there's not a lot of detail, but the movement (aka. the animation) was extremely well done.
I really wish this would be more common.
I agree so much ;_;

I agree too, if you see it on video It is extremely good
Would anyone know what the BGM on this vid is from?
Animation sucks but BGM sure is fucking sweet..
Thanks in advance.
found it, i'm sooo dumb..
GET IT BY YOUR HANDS from Eureka 7 soundtrack.
Now that someone mentioned the ED quality, I'm pretty sure the ED was a result of the budget. Luckily it came out pretty well with the song.
nice "get it by your hands"
the the video rather amused me...
actually, if you take the time to look at it as a whole instead of cussing at individual frames, it captures the movement and the feelings very nicely.
I suppose it has a charm of it own.
I still like the classic for some reason.
i thought it was just the animator's style. :S i didn't mind it since the rest of the anime was pretty much top quality anyways. those scenes changed things up a bit.
Oy! Isn't this the same animation style used in Kemonozume? Why is everyone getting all in a huff?
the animation is good actually. its smooth. so what if it looks odd?
The "low quality" scene here, as well as the similar end fight in the series, feature what seem to be hand-drawn backgrounds. The camera moves *through* complicated scenes, which is challenging to animate. Most of the time in animation the camera is restricted to panning because then you can use a static background.
It seems clear that the "quality" was a deliberate choice: given a fixed budget, they chose to downres the image quality to allow themselves time to animate the backgrounds. Whether or not the result works for you or not is a matter of personal taste, but definitely watch the video (rather than just look at the still frames) before making a decision. (Honestly, the series' end fight works much better, imo.)
the guy in charge of the animation in birdy (Ryouchimo) also worked on noein, the action sequences in ep7 and 12 look very much like those in noein... go figure :>
oh whoa, i didnt know this was a flash :B
jkjk |D
if you like those animation
maybe you will like
Kemonozume
this anime has same style
i tell you,it's "Anno-style".See last episodes of Evangelion and Kare Kano.
As said, it's a memory flashback sequence. It done this way to reflect the mental state the she was in.
OH REALLY?
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/06/08/tetsuwan-birdy-decode-dvd-eternal-shame-unveiled/
Uhm...
Somehow Birdie looks fatty for me during those fail drawings...
Haven't seen the show yet...
It's still great but the drawing of unbalanced body parts made me lol.
During the time Birdie cried, the movement of her face is so jelly-like. LOL!
And don't complain about "Birdie" spelling...
I did it on purpose...
looks cuter for me. LOL!
Wow the video still is epic fail. This is around Akikan quality but oh well that's what DVDs are for.
I guess any objection would be fighting windmills >_>
Fighting windmills indeed, as I also feel that it's a rather badly animated series...personally I feel that the memory sequence should have had the quality of the "present" and the present should be better so that this kind of drop is excusable...doesn't help that I don't like the show and I still have to get the fansubs.
Reminds me of a certain Studio 4C director...
Just my thought.
art deco style?
LOL!
Epic. It must have taken em 10 whole minutes to animate that scene.
I call this careless remark from a smart alec
You really don't know anything about animation, do you?
Anyway, the effect seemed deliberate, looking at it.
In before anyone corrected my typo...
lol, the first picture reminded me of the parappa the rapper guy :p
you guys even bother watching the clip? this is an artsy fartsy segment with tons of movement and characters. not sure how this could be seen as any kind of quality fail unless you're really keen to split hairs.
Don't give me the art comment. Aywhere else, bad quality is bad quality, but if it's art, then bad quality means....vsion. BS. Ugly is ugly, regardles of art.
I call shopped.
wahahha
i miss this kind anime
Lulz
this is indeed legendary quality
LOL, legendary quality indeed
What the hell? It must be a memory scene or something.
TEAM POLYGON.
HUNDRED MAN MELEE!
I suspect the same, quality normally is pretty damn good.. can only imagine this to be intended somehow.. like as said above, trying to recall a memory.
If it isn't..
NOOOES, what have you done to my birdy :<
It is indeed a memory scene, so I actually think it was intended to look like that, and of course it looks better animated than in still images.
What the hell, A-1?
I swear it looks like Kaiba.
yeah, that was my first thought, too.
Ques - Kaiba Op
awesome quality is awesome XD
lol I still love this anime though
I shat bricks when I saw this. I could only think of how this might be a ploy to increase DVD sales. After all, with a quality gap this huge, the DVD version would look like a whole new anime.
Shitty animation is the new "hidden pantsu" technique for DVD sales! lol.
Wow if this is anime animation fail then I guess Noein is epic fail.
Anyway if you guys been keeping up with Birdy season 2 the intro has some segments of her younger self blowing things up. This is probably what it is.
WTF! Must be an tasteless music video rip-off or alternate dimension situation.
Or late night for the staff...
The tape caught fire just before broadcast and they needed to reanimate it quickly?
Isn't it the same kind of "Guest director" special episode, like Sousei no Aquarion 19?
Obviously this was intended to be a rather surreal styled memory sequence.
I swear, people are becoming more and more pathetic as the days go by, unable to appreciate stylistic features and instead prefer bog standard animtion.
I for one applaud such attempts.
Again with the "it's art" bullshit. Ugly is UGLY, no matter the reason.
If u have to draw a shitlock u have to draw it then it will look like.... a shitlock and it will be probably be ugly...
But the story asked for a shitlock. so a shitlock it is... Now picturice the shitlock as the state of mind of birdy at that moment and there u have the decision about how to draw birdy's stunlocked memory.... thats all.
I hope there's a third season.
The DVD version of this episode would like some words with you. And the word is "pretentious" and "idiot"
Ugly art is still art :p
You take the words straight out of my mouth, my anonymous friend.
a memory flashback indeed..
i was quite surprised they still use this kinda art style the weird detailed facial expressions the bulky body design...i think theres a show that features all kinds of art just like this its called "digista" short for digital stadium..
it was aired on nhk japan not sure if it still exist now...check it out youtube btw
Do any of you actually watch the show? It is a memory sequence.
i doubt it...
I will still watch it
LOLWUT. Birdy became flat-chested lolol. I haven't seen that episode yet. But yea- this season is full of QUARITY compare to the previous season. >_>
It really reminds me of Medabots...
Well, those scenes feature some impressively fluid animation, I'm 99% certain this was a deliberate artistic choice. Anyone who goes "OMG epic QUALITY lolz!!!!111" obviously hasn't watched the clip. Many anime use similar style in similar contexts. FLCL anyone? Aquarion ep19?, Macross Frontier ep10? I guess I could recall many more if I tried...
I enjoyed these scenes very much. I really want to watch Birdy Decode now.
It's interesting that you mention Macross F 10 here. The scene featured in the video from 0:24 to 1:10, which most of the shots above are coming from, was animated by Niho Tomoyuki, who incidently was responsible for the end fight in said MacF episode.
As for the entry, true fail as expected from a site like sankakucomplex. Animation is lost on the average anime fan who wants stillframes of naked female 2d characters with voice-over by Tanaka or Kugimiya Rie.
LOL, you read my mind on the FLCL part. I was almost gonna say the same thing before I read this comment. Never watched this anime before, but the animation does look okay (as well as the storyline) so like few have said already, maybe it was done on purpose?
But still, its nowhere near as bad as Akikan right?
i this it has nothing to do with "bad animation quality" its supposed to look "funky" and im sure its on purpose ^~^
That's a lame excuse for the animators. It is so bad that defames the name of Japan Animation.
This is one anime title I am not gonna watch surely.
The history of this anime is pretty good, that is the only scene that has that kind of animation, in that scene birdy´s mind is lost and Tsutomu is triying to get in contact with her. I´ve seen the anime and only in some battles the animation goes this bad, all the rest of the history is pretty good.
Sure, go ahead. It's your loss. And actually, this is one of the reasons many animation critics still attest anime artistic value instead of just deeming it over-glorified animated porn for pedophiles.
Sure you can call me shallow but the main reason for me to watch anime (because in the first place I don't know about the story) is the quality of drawing/animation of the title.
I must admit that I've fallen victim to many series that had wonderful art but crappy story. Ideally I would watch only anime titles with good artistic value and terrific scenarios, but we all know how rare this is.
In the meantime I can only "judge a book by its cover" as a mean to pick a series, because reviews and critics tend to vastly disagree with my opinion.
Just reread my first reply and realized that maybe I should have been a bit clearer.
Good art is as important to me as decent characters and a good story. I won't be able to fully enjoy an anime if the art sucks. What I was trying to say is that those screens don't really tell anything about the visual quality of the show. I don't know if you have watched the clip, but it doesn't look nearly as bad in motion. Quite the contrary IMO. But regardless of whether you like this particular animation style or not, look at a few screen caps of other scenes and you'll see it's not representative of the show's overall animation style. But those super-fluid sequences is what convinces western animation critics (note that I wrote animation critics), since usually they whine about static character stills with only the lips moving and such.
As far as I can tell, the show also has plenty of great (and more "conventional") art apart from that. Maybe you should just give it a try. I know I will as soon as I catch up on other shows.
Of course this was done on purpose, but they did it WELL, in making it look like the ED w/ probably the low budget given. So it works and is forgivable.
