rie-kugimiya-recording.jpg

This rather interesting compilation video shows various seiyuu, especially tsundere queen Rie Kugimiya, recording their roles, often showing them together with the actual anime. The results are rather interesting, particularly when dealing with such high level seiyuu…

It seems they all display similar levels of animation during their performances?

Interesting how it looks. But they sure spent a lot of time with Sen to Chihiro recordings and I thought I heard Miyazaki doesn't typically cast professional seiyuu.

Yeah, same here mate, same here.
Wow, these seiyuu job looks really complicated compared to normal voice actors/actresses in a normal cartoon. But still, can't believe some of them get paid very little for the amount of effort they put into voicing some of those characters....

"...these seiyuu job looks really complicated compared to normal voice actors/actresses..."

-Actually, I'd say it's about the same... or maybe I should say, it's exactly the same as Western voice acting. They both involve exactly the same processes from start to finish. The differences in "quality" often lie with the selection of talent or more likely, the production budget of the feature, just as with any other commercial enterprise (you get what you pay for).
There have been many incredibly talented Western film & anime voice actors over the years. From older names like Mel Blanc, Jim Hensen, Casey Kasem, & Frank Welker to the newer talent of Billy West, Phil LaMarr, Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Hank Azaria, & Seth McFarlan.
Western voice actors don't often garner much recognition outside the industry despite their incredible talent simply because animated features aren't as iconic in the US as they are in Japan and are far overshadowed by live action film & television.
Of course there are a few notable exceptions, like Seth McFarlan, who have gained notoriety due to their voice acting roles, but more often than not, the talent behind even some of the more popular Western animated series tend to remain relatively unknown.
Personally I blame the overwhelming lack of serious Western anime Otkau for the apparent disparity in notoriety between Japanese and Western voice actors. Apparently the Western freaks & geeks are too busy giving each other Vulcan hand-jobs at Star Trek conventions instead.

tl;dr Western voice actors = Japanese voice actors in talent, not notoriety.
