The fifth and latest episode of the fourth season of yuri anime Maria-sama ga Miteru appears with an onslaught of Pizza Hut advertising complete with a scene depicting the characters eating at the aforementioned restaurant.
Such advertising is not uncommon in anime today, much to the annoyance of (some) fans.
The author of the article shares such sentiments but admits the episode made him develop a craving for Pizza Hut. Perhaps arguing the effectiveness of it all is a moot point?
Of course, it can be accomplished relatively elegantly, such as with C.C.‘s eccentric pizza obsession.

Pizza hut ran a promotion featuring Maria-sama characters on their pizza boxes some time ago. From what I read, it was quite popular. They're just taking the next step and doing more tie-ins with the anime.
I'm really shocked that Maria-sama is so popular over there. It's an odd series. Lots of implied stuff but zero ecchi. And of all the characters in the show, only one is blatant lesbian. It's nothing like say Strawberry Panic which had ecchi and lesbians galore.
Is it just me or does the Pizza hut logo with the black background look Photoshopped in...
Sir, what is this animu that you are screencapping here?
I wonder what the slogan here would be?
How about:
"Pizza Hut supports the Rosa's!" XD
product placement inside anime = greatest marketing gimmick XDD
LOL, unlike in Geass (and C.C. has Eau de Cheese, so much I want to whip out my wallet for a stuffed crust pepperoni), pizza doesn't interfere much with the storytelling in Marimite.
If you check out the Pizza Hut Japan website, they're sponsoring several shows.
this is not the first time of an anime-based product endorsement.I think as i can recall,Pioneer(Geneon) and Capcom made some endorsements on Tenchi Muyo! and Street Fighter movies.Speaking of Pizza Hut hen they gonna release limited toys on meals?
damn, that ruined the anime for me. -.-
have they no shame?
Better than a can of sweet bean extract.
By the way, the tie-ins are around since Season 3 OVA.
If you think about it another way, Pizza Hut is sponsoring anime. Yay for Pizza Hut support!
'Maria-sama ga Pizzaru'? No thank you. Usually any anime with that kind of stuff has to be careful or be invited to do the Litigation Two-step. XD
Shameless marketing ploy is shameless.
Product sponsorship always happens. I've also seen Eva paired with UCC Coffee.
C.C. wannabe lol
Didn't even notice myself, Yumi's hair was a distraction
Pizza tasted so much better at the Pizza Hut in Japan... Then again, everything did (from McDonalds, KFC, etc.).
I'M HUNGRY FOR JAPAN NOW!!! >:O
If you pay 3000 yen (Around $50 AUS) for one, i would be extremely pissed if it didnt taste good.
It tastes better because they sprinkle moe on all their foods.
I hope it isn't all MSG.
roflmao
Pizza Hut is the ultimate evil. They completely ruined Code Geass already...
I lolled .. seriously, that just a retarded excuse.
I hope someone gets a cheese-kun too.
I would love to see Sachiko hugging Yumi while she's hugging Cheese-kun... yummy!
On a serious note... the product placement was somewhat distracting though. That guy seems to be just staring at that Pizza Hut logo the whole time they were at the station...
It's at least not the most ridiculous ad placement I've ever seen. In the second Bleach movie there's a whole 10 second scene where they cut away to a city and show a Lawson truck driving by then cut back to the movie. It had absolutely nothing to do with anything. At least that's not the case here.
Why Pizza Hut? Are they that much better than other chains?
personally I like papa Johns's.
don't much care for pizza hut anymore.
Maybe Pizza Hut is the only food chain who invested into the anime
lol! my thoughts exactly... pizza hut pizza's are pretty bad down in aust... so i've always avoided em
Its just a shame pizza costs 10x as much here in Japan than in Australia at the current exchange rate.
I shit you not, AU$50 for a large pizza hut/ dominos pizza here in Japan (3000 yen), as opposed to AU$4 to $9.
Seroiusly, Domino's has to step up and take all marketing placements in future mecha and yuri animes.
CODE GEASS MONSTROSITY.
From Code Geass to Kannagi to MariMite 4th. What's the next anime to do a shameless Pizza Hut plug?
You forgot Darker Than Black, though imo Code Geass's recuring theme wasn't really shameless, or it's so shameless one loses sight of what shame is. Either way I approved of Cheese-kun. ;3
C.C (Drools)
The real Pizza is the Italian Pizza that you can eat here in Italy...the rest is only junk food....and yes...i have found very strange and not so amusing to see in an anime like Maria Sama this kind of "hidden spot"
I think the pizza as most people know it was invented in New York. But it probably tastes better in Italy.
No cheese-kun or hawt green haired girl.. it's light years behind on some other show..
