“April Haruhi TV Anime” a Rerun: Angry Mobs Form…

[AnimePaper]scans_The-Melancholy-Of-Haruhi-Suzumiya_storm-and-fi

The news that the “Haruhi TV Anime” was set to air in April, thought by all to be either the long awaited second series or an almost unbelievably perverse marketing stunt, in fact does turn out to be a carefully worded piece of deception: it refers only to a rerun of the previously aired first season of Haruhi

Fans are predictably outraged, though it remains to be seen whether they will finally abandon the series, or will merely grumble and obediently commence purchasing should a new series actually emerge.

The dread confirmation emerged after direct enquiries to Kadokawa, which drew official confirmation that it was merely their grandiose way of pulling in the punters to view their repeat airing.

Strange that they wouldn’t bother to mention the fact that the new airing was a repeat of the first season in any of their material?

Their use of just “TV anime” without mentioning the name of the series now seems retrospectively suspect, and their deliberate efforts to incite speculation about the 2nd season, only to then deceive fans with weaselled wording, is surely nothing more than wilful and reprehensible deception.

Is this some disastrous attempt at generating “buzz”, or are their marketing departments entirely staffed by incompetents? Certainly, fans will likely not believe a word they say from here on, and quite sensibly too.

Probably most fans will not care anymore after this latest disappointment, but there is some lingering speculation that a back to back broadcast of the first series followed directly by the second is what is planned – this would mean a summer start for the title.

It would probably be better for fans just to forget this wretched series ever existed and obsess over something else, however.

  • A bunch of idiots is what you all are. They announced way back when that this was a re-airing of the first season. To expect it to be something else is pathetic. I believe that since it has been so long that they plan to release the old season in order to promote a new season for next year…I could be wrong (and probably am) but this is no reason to be so stupid and blame them for all of your peoples inability to read and research accurately. People have known about this for a couple months already. Uneducated idiots the lot of you.

So, where exactly do they confirm that it’s a rerun? All J-Cast is saying is that there hasn’t been any official word from Kadokawa on whether it’s true or not.

    • I’m really hoping right now that this is just a case of something getting lost in translation and one guy reporting it and it spreading from there.

I don’t see why they would need to hype up a re-run so badly when the show is out on DVD.

      Maybe I’m just optimistic.

Check out how pissingly well done a lot of them gender swap Haruhi clips are on UTube! No kid doing photoshop at his bedroom desk redid every frame of those clips to look as good as the real deal like that! Maybe — just maybe those are really legit leaked KyotoAni “Haruhi II” clips teasing fans for a surprise different season! I’m just saying that even though I don’t really believe there’s any season II coming but check this idea out! The outfit that DID do those gender retouched UTube clips would the perfect guys to help create a fan-based Haruhi season II+ anime!! If they’re that good, who needs KyotoAni? And there’s lots of awesome Haruhi fanfics out there for material! All the Haruhi fans whining about KyotoAni screwing them need to get their heads and wallets together and jump on a new boat! Thanox!

  • i will always worship haruhi-sama ive read the novels and eventually their might be a second season if not oh well do not let this shake your faith always be true to the one and only original suzumiya haruhi

  • The DAP Ressurrection of Haruhi says:

This cowardly abuse is another good reason to jump on Desktop Animation Programs when they become finally available for people and artists outside Disney! There’s awesome writing talent out there that’s just as good as any Kadokawa might use — and way more devoted to Haruhi for reasons more than just for a buck! I’d love to see some fan light novels milled out into anime that look just good as the “real thing.” It’d turn the the anime world upside down because you wouldn’t need Kadokawa or any company to feed your anime addiction anymore! Just US!!!

  • No fucking way. There’s no fucking way they set up this announcement, got the magazine’s cover, even going as far as to hype the announcement up weeks beforehand, and then revealed that they will show fucking reruns. This series has become a joke.

  • God I hate Kyoto Animation. I swear this is the last thing I’m gonna tolerate from them.

I’m no saint, now I hate them nearly as much as I hate JC Staff now. But I certainly can’t give up on Suzumiya.

F*ck Kadokawa, f*ck Kyoani and f*ck myself for having such high hopes

  • LMAO!! I thought so!
If they EVER will release a 2nd season, than the marketing would be done more prominent!
You can’t expect that EVERYONE would believe that 2 ambiguous lines of text (not even mentioning the name of the tittle being released) would be the Grand announcement for the release of a hugely anticipated show.
You guys are blaming them too much… Then again, I understand some of you have been eagerly awaiting for the release of Season 2 for almost 3 years now. Again, same goes for the novel…

  • Eh, I’m not raging too much. Got plenty of other stuff to watch in the meantime.

That said, I doubt this was a COMPLETE red herring. I find it highly likely that they’ll either:

    1. Use this rerun (which will probably be in chronological rather than original airing order) to rev up the hype machine again, and begin airing Disappearance immediately thereafter. Most likely.
    2. Give everyone a massive surprise by having the supposed “rerun” actually be Season 2. Very doubtful, and indicative of the marketing department smoking something they really shouldn’t be, but possible.
    3. Really, REALLY screw with viewers by staggering the rerun episodes with the new Season 2 ones, which will probably be in non-chronological order themselves. Even more doubtful and suggestive of substance abuse by the marketing department, but remotely possible considering the mindscrew of the first season.

  • Fucking A… Fuck these bastards… Fucking with us like this… AprilFirst…. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf

  • Palmtop Tiger says:

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya indeed.

For KyoAni’s next trick, they will say this was just April Fools and season 2 will air on April 1st.

At least I can look forward to Shakugan no Shana 3.

  • I figured it’d be something like this. Yare yare.

Artefact, I wonder if a ‘Rage!’ tag can be added to the news post database for potentially flammable articles like this in the future? Just an idea. ^_-

Also, epic troll is epic. GG Kadokawa. Die in a fucking fire already.

  • Gantz_Playboy says:

    uhhh….The…world…spins…..Must get off!

Someone needs to re-arrange Kabo’s ‘special date’….I’m soo mortified. This news is worse than the last 3 Star Wars prequels….No Haruhi??…sad.

I can’t match the level of angst over the guy who typed “FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK”- lol that it stretched the page……but I feel your pain.

  • Lowblow…
I still love Haruhi, but 2nd season is dead for me now.

When I finished watching it, I never thought there would be a second season after all, and now I’m back to my belief.

I’ll also stop buying whatever merchandise that comes from them.

And finally, I’m also not buying Newtype magazines anymore. From my point of view, they either trolled it’s readers or are too fucking incompetent to realize the mistake they were doing… so it’s not worth reading anymore.

  • The best course of action right now is to do nothing. Folks, put down your pitchforks and torches. Kadokawa wanted this outcry to boost the popularity of the franchise. They wanted the fanbase to yell and scream. So don’t fall for this. Deny them the media sensation they wanted so badly.

On the other hand, the more publicity stunts they pull the more likely there will actually be a second season. But I am not buying any of that until I see the first episode, which is worth more than a thousand words.

    • Gantz_Playboy says:

Haruhi would Not put down the Pitch-fork!….she’d have a public Out-cry! How the Hell can they produce 3 seasons of mindless fun like “Ikki Tousen” or 50 some odd eps of a cute, narrative & character driven show like “School Rumble” and yet can’t scare up ANY new “Haruhi” eps….Screw Kadokawa!!!…no one likes to be Jerked around.

If the ‘Makers’ can’t figure out the need & financial gain from a 2nd “Haruhi” – they don’t deserve it’s Fanbase!….screw that guy!

  • I’m surprised people haven’t given up on Haruhi already. It’ll come out if it comes out and and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t. For those in pain and agony, I prescribe some popular eroge. If you’re into the randomness of Haruhi at times, then I suggests Sumaga. Or for something closer to Haruhi, just go read the light novels of Haruhi at
    Baka-Tsuki if you haven’t already.

  • Quit blaming it on Kyoto Animation, they have no power whatsoever on what to produce. Kadokawa has them on a leash like dogs. Also, the author of the light novels has come across a writer’s block and is currently unable to finish the story.

Give it time, I’d rather see Haruhi 2 done right than wrong.

  • Brothers! Sisters! Heathens and devoted followers alike! Heed my words as I present a possible explanation for this travesty.

We all know how much KyoAni and Kadokawa like to fuck with us about Haruhi, so take this as a possible scenario.

We were once told that the second season would be a new series to reflect how it’s to be considered a new timeline. I believe, that this rerun is in fact the second season in disguise, being played as just run of the mill Haruhi, as to slip under the radar and take us by surprise.

Do not fall for this treachery. Our God has not abandoned us this day, she will rise again, and when she does, we, the true believers will be there to bear witness to her majesty!

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • This just seems a bit strange. Why do a rerun of the first season so suddenly and why announce it with the cover in Newtype. I bet they could have another more exiting cover that an Haruhi replay. Not that is any likely, but would’t they do a rerun if a second season were coming soon.
Maybe they announce reruns sometimes in this way over in japan but for me it seems plain weird somehow.

  • They’ll have to finish Munto (blah) before they start on Little Busters. And then we may see a FMP OVA followed by a chance at more Haruhi teasing.

I mean, we got three seasons of Hell Girl and Zero no Tsukaima and Inuyasha ENDED while we wait.

I guess a second season of Haruhi can only exist in a world where Narutu Sand Ninjas and Bleach have a small viewer base and where Detective Conan only ran for 13 episodes.

  • “It would probably be better for fans just to forget this wretched series ever existed and obsess over something else, however.”

I agree 100%! Seriously if all they are going to do is constantly troll us then they dont deserve our support.

    • Gantz_Playboy says:

How the hell does “Evangelion” keep re-inventing itself and people keep loving it (which I do as well!) and yet it’s been over 10 years! for that series…..YET “Haruhi” can’t produce Anything new??

I agree…I’m going back to my first anime Goddess: Asuka Langley Soryu! I heard She’s gonna be in the New Movie this summer! Gee, NEW Asuka! vs NO Haruhi!….screw you NewType!

  • I sometimes feel bad downloading anime I know will be released in the USA, but If and when Season 2 of Haruhi ever comes I will not feel bad at all stealing the shit out of it and spreading as many copies as I can to all my friends!

Honestly, they are going to loose a bunch of fans if they keep this up. Give us a release date, even if it’s next year, give us something to look forward too!.

  • Oh god, I actually laughed when I saw this article a few minutes ago. I am so glad I gave up hoping for anything from them a year ago, I hate to sound condescending(Not really), but you people who get ecstatic over anything these assholes announce are just setting yourselves up for repeated disappointed. They are going to keep doing this and milking everyone until they get an overall ambivalent response. The very best thing you can do to get your precious Haruhi animu is to just tell KyoAni to fuck off until they produce some tangible proof, rather than announcements.

  • When I looked at the news yesterday, I found that having a visual of Asakura Ryouko was a little suspicious (wasn’t she dead? does she come back?) but I was confident that nobody would make something as stupid as announcing a rerun on NewType cover page when a sequel has been awaited for some time.

Now my faith in humanity has crumbled a little more.

However, I liked Haruhi. Still do, and no amount of stupidity will change that.

But that is in the past now; won’t be expecting any more of it in my future.

  • Yeah, I give up.

I’m done sending everyone an excited email with a link to one of the posts here every time another “announcement” comes.

    Or am I?

Nothing against you, Artefact. Just Kadokawa, KyoAni, Aya, et al. Their crap is getting lame.

  • Shadowstitch says:

…I must be one of the approximately ten remaining humans on the planet not savagely pummeled by the rabid fanbase, who didn’t particularly enjoy Haruhi, thanks in part to the ridiculous overhype which detracted from my eventual viewing of the series.

  • I’m looking forward to the next season of Ookami to Koushinryou. A Sequel which I am sure will come in time.

Y’know the slogan ‘God is dead,’ Nietzsche or so.. well
Haruhi is dead – so freaking dead. But there won’t be any believer who actually believe in the truth. (Would contradict everything believing is about..)

    • Not likely, if that was true they would have announced it in this issue along with the re-airing and Kadokawa said they have nothing to announce at this time so there is pretty much no chance of that.

  • “Certainly, fans will likely not believe a word they say from here on, and quite sensibly too.”

They should’ve started doing that last year already. I guess they just can’t give up. It’s like the Sonic Cycle, if you know what I mean.

  • I find it strange that people are expecting for Haruhi 2nd season when Kyoani themself said that it is impossible.

Even the author is refusing to finish the novel.
Unless kadokawa decide to find another studio and butcher the story to make at least a coherent story, which would definitely make the fan RAGE!!!

    • There is no such thing as unbiased reporting. Everything is slanted to what the writer of the article wants you to know and believe. This includes CNN. Second of all he’s not trying to be a news agency but instead sharing the news and his opinion. Artefact is a fan just like the rest of us who come here. Please remember this from now on.

      • I thought Sankaku was as close to a model of objectivity as he ever gets. It’s all good. This is an entertainment magazine, not a straight news site.

But I totally and completely disagree with the statement that there is no such thing as unbiased reporting. Except as a truism: we are human, we never reach perfect objectivity. But if the statement is used as an excuse for not even trying to be objective then it is wrong and, actually, evil.

A real news site should try to be as objective — or at least fair — as possible. And it is definitely possible to get close. I know because I’ve done that job. If we never even try, then there is no way whatsoever to know what the heck is going on in the world.

I still can’t figure out why they haven’t got to season two yet. What commercial calculation could lead them this far?

To me, this show was a masterpiece of anime. And it clearly sells goods by the truckload. Why wouldn’t they want to make a new series?

        • A jilted Haruhi fan? Get back to waiting for the new series if you can’t stand a slight against your precious Haruhi. You’re the only one objecting here.

          Enjoy your vigil.

And as to the issue of bias, whilst I do not think objectivity in reporting to be a meaningful position, you’ve probably noticed that the editorial stance is largely a response to perceived user proclivities, coupled with additional uncompromisable qualities a source like this needs (fairness, reliability, ethics, etc).

In this case, anyone can see that the Haruhi fanbase is truly exasperated and Kadokawa’s actions have become farcical.

        • >I thought Sankaku was as close to a model of objectivity as he ever gets.

          (from actual article)
          >It would probably be better for fans just to forget this wretched series ever existed and obsess over something else, however.

0/10, and just hoping that you’re joking and not actually serious. Sankaku Complex’s editing is far closer to your average whiny blogger with an axe to grind than it is to reporting of any other style.

And Artefact, refer to the same quoted section (as an example only) and tell yourself again that you’re ‘in tune’ and ‘appreciate what’s going on’. I’ve been trolled, right? The vitriol’s always just in jest, right? Don’t give us shit like ‘news is inherently biased’ as an excuse to slopping quite so much of your greasy and often misleading intentions on top of it. The ‘someone on the internet in Korea made a random death threat’ has got to be a ridiculous personal low to even claim as news, and I hate the Korean reaction to Hetalia as much as anyone else.

      • I was going to provide a very similar response. The very act of selecting an event as “news” is fundamentally a judgmental and biased act.

Any editorialising you see here is generally thought to be in tune with what the audience is thinking.

And finally, I may not be a Haruhi fan, but I do appreciate what is going on both with them and the publisher.

  • I’m not buying any of their crap until I see either Haruhi or FMP. God help them if they are doing another Key adaptation. How is 2ch taking this? I’m sure they have to be beyond pissed like I am now. Newtype is to blame just as much for this crap, you’re telling me that somebody didn’t have the common sense to put it’s a re-run on the cover. Whatever was left of the Haruhi fanbase pretty much just died with this.
