K-On! KyoAni-ficaton

k-on-kyoani.jpg

Four panel manga けいおん! / K-On! (by Kakifly) is set to receive an anime adaptation, due to air in the spring, and handled by none other than Kyoto Animation.

Their usual illustrative style permeates the character design noticeably; above you see the original, below is the anime version:

keion_01.gif

As you might guess, guitars will feature.

A studio with a distinct visual style indeed. See also the earlier imagining of what a KyoAni Little Busters! might look like.

Clearly, they have better things to do than waste their time on minor franchises

as far as i know, A-1 Picture is working on the Valkyria Chronicles anime which is also scheduled to be released on April, but i still don't think KyoAni is doing K-On!. Looks too similar to Kannagi to me than their usual stuff.

I have some sources saying KyoAni, but if yours are better I'd like to hear so I can correct?

Yea I'm not seeing this mentioned in the official places (atleast for English audiences such as ANN) so if you could post a source for this it would be much appreciated.

    It is not official.

Speculation is mostly based on the fact that the designs thus shown supposedly appear to be done by Yukiko Horiguchi, an illustrator attached to Kyoto Animation (she was the art supervisor for Clannad, and Haruhi, and worked as a character designer on Lucky Star).

Much of 2ch seems convinced, but it is still technically speculation.

Well I know Clannad's been broadcasting on TBS and BS-i since the first season, so there's the possibility. However, I can't really deny that it looks like Mima Kageru's style. Looks like we'll be guessing until confirmation hits.

Eh I saw all kinds of rumors about this...personally I suspect it's not KyoAni but rather Yamakan (Yamamoto Yutaka) and A-1 Picture. This looks exactly like something he'd like to work on and was quite experienced with. Has the Kannagi style even

    Yawn.
Are they scared of doing Haruhi 2 or something because it might not live upto the ridiculous expectations people have, thus making their animation house look bad?
Me thinks so if they'd rather waste time on stuff like this...

I've been dissapointed with them working on Munto TV (Munto OVA was AWFUL) instead on Lucky Star second season or Little Buster (which I hope they will made into anime since it's a very popular visual novel of Key, just like Clannad, Air and Kanon)...ok, even Haruhi (even if I find it overrated but I didn't mind watched it). But this anime looks very interesting.

    Hmm
I wish the animation and character design didn't look like Kannagi.

It seems like Japanese animators have a hard time keeping design quality with frame rate. Kyo Ani sacrificed design quality and detail, to have smoother movements.

It's nice to look at (very rotoscope-like) but it makes the characters look dull and colorless by comparison.

The animated ending video. nice movement, but everyone looks so lifeless.

Lol they really really hate Haruhi fans. Never before have I seen a studio just absolutely despise a franchise before. I'm starting to think Fall 2010 before we see crap. Screw you Kyo-Ani either announce the damn thing sometime soon or just say you have no interest in it, these half ass things are just pissing people off.

Anyway, while on the hand I see no reason why Kyoani should be held hostage by the clammering of a certain subset of fans, on the other it seems like at this point they kind of owe a second season to Haruhi fans for teasing them this long.

When I first checked out the site during C75, the design seemed to scream "Kannagi" to me (still kinda looks like they pasted Zange-chan's face on to me).

    But KyoAni, eh...

Well, I think it'll be a fun watch, and I know Kyoto Animation will do it well, although I, like some others, would prefer Haruhi 2 (if only because it feels like they've been holding it over our heads for the longest time).

Yea, it would be nice if they do Littler Busters!
Seeing Haruhi 2 would be nice too, but I'm not really dying to see it like most people...as they are just so many decent anime around that can keep me occupied.

Hell, Full Metal Panic: TSR was before Haruhi (if I remember right), and there's not even the slightest sign of if a sequel will ever be made. Unlike the Haruhi 2, which is most likely not even a continuation of season 1, I wish to see sequel of FMP more.
