F-4 Ita-Phantom

skuld-f4-ita-phantom.jpg

An F-4 Phantom, one of the premier jet fighter-bombers of the previous century, then in service with western militaries the world over, displaying nose art which will be distinctly familiar to many of you: Belldandy, Skuld and Urd, of Ah! My Goddess.

Of course, the provenance of such an image is problematic (it doesn’t help that it is likely old and is badly compressed); we have to wonder whether it is Photoshopped or not?

Perhaps there is some conclusive proof already established, but whatever the case it is an interesting image…

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Are those ladders? Now why would a plane have three ladders? Is it three different planes? Also, the shot of it taking off looks HIGHLY unnatural.

Three planes at rest on the tarmac. Three ladders deployed. Three shots of three different noses.

And who said the plane was taking off?

Yes, that could be a landing.

It's real. As others have said, 3 planes, 3 shots, 3 ladders.

As for the take off/landing shot, it is either rotating on take off, or using aerodynamic braking on landing. Note the rear horizontal stabilator - it's rotated upwards indicating backwards stick pressure, again showing that it's either rotating on take off, or slowing down after touchdown.

Nose Art has been practiced by just about every Air Force at one time or the other. Most of the time it is very Un-official . . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nose_art

oh yeah distract the enemy by painting anime on a fighter and shoot the enmey down when they're busy wondering wtf was painted on the plane.i'd say thats a nice strategy

Nose Art [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nose_art] has nothing to do with strategy and everything to do with lulz. It's been this way since WW2. Anybody who knows a lick about air forces around the world knows that people like to deck out their jets with random stuff. And when I say random, I mean it.

Besides, Oh! My Goddess beats plain old pin-up girls anyday.

Doesn't have to do with strategy or tactics. It's just like making your aircraft personal, is all.

Too bad they'll be retired soon. This planes are like an icon, like the F-14. Hope they still put anime nose art on their future aircraft x_x
