Final Fantasy XIII Gets Afro Chocobo Handler: Sazh Katzroy

The latest issue of Shonen Jump reveals an amusing new character in Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy XIII, an afro-donning, dual pistol wielding man whose hair is apparently large enough to serve as living space for his pet chibi chocobo: サッズ・カッツロイ / Sazh Katzroy.
The full sized scan from the magazine is below:
Not much in the way of details are given, but it is apparent that the dual pistols he carries will probably be his main weapon type in the game, and he does have a chibi chocobo that he carries around with him.
The magazine suggests that the chocobo, Hina, might be carried around in the unnamed character’s hair, which definitely does seem large enough for the task.
Above are Final Fantasy XIII’s more traditionally designed characters. Perhaps Sazh looks somewhat out of place?

as a man who had an afro there are certain things you hide in it depending on size for his convenience the following:
1) his hairpick
2) blunts or smokes
3) writing instruments
4) a knife 3-under inch
5) small rolls of paper (rollin/writing)
6) cell phone, keys, money
Please add your own (try to make it realistic to keep it interesting)

What I really like about this is that the Chocobo is basically the chicken of Final Fantasy, and the black guy loves them, and is seemingly raising one.

Have you watched The Boondocks? I know it's not Japanese, but it's still my favorite (pseudo-)anime with black characters in it.
please do. i find it funny in anime when they just choose some guy with a deep voice to play the black characters voice. im sure there are plenty of black people in japan that can read, write, and talk enough fluent japanese to be hired as a Seiyu.
O and those who say all japs dont like blacks r just as closed minded as thier statement. This is not the 1st time thier was a black character in ff series

He seems cool, and if he's a good character then I'll play him. I don't care what race he is, as long as they make him bad ass. If he can put his guns where his mouth is then I'm all for it. I can't say that I'm reassured that they aren't making him a stereotype just so they can have comic relief because it might be. If they are just making him just to appease people then they should get rid of the character. Making him a damaging stereotype is going to do more harm then good. If they made a believably cool character then good for them.

Actually when you think about it. it was a black person in every FF game that was on PS1 or Ps2. now it's Ps3 :P the list being , Barret , Kiros Seagill , for FF9 i'm gonna call Amarant Coral , black (even though he's not. he's a random race) , then for ff10 it's the summoner Dona , and ff12 fran. These were a good group of people , although they're not part of the main cast. This new guy though XD omg he's such a joke...his "humour" is just..... annoying. Personal i think it would be cool to see a Black main character...but i dout that'll ever happen XD . it's a Japanese game , so why would it be any other race than Japanese as a main character? Dude look at cloud. when was the last time you saw a Japanese man with Blondie hair and blue eyes? Even if they were supposed to be made after Japanese , they sure didn't look it. Actually if you go down the line of main cast members , it's only a hand full of ones that look Japanese anyway. Regarding characters with pets, one has to remember Minsc from Baldurs Gate!Big white guy with shaved head and a raging passion for justice. Alawys with his partner, the hamster Boo. Who actually is a SPACE HAMSTER.
You would always get irritated that the damn hamster was stealing one of the three quick-slots, but then you would press him and hear *squeek* and immediately forgive him. :D

Improbable? Yes, but the protagionist is a pretty-looking girl this time, not a boy/lad/L'Oreal ad. SquareEnix is going a different pitch which hopefully includes lesbians.

The Racism tunneling through this place is palpable. you'd think that after obama's success people would possibly change their mind, but then japanese racism is pretty stubborn. my favourite piece of racism was always Mr Popo and his magic carpet from the dragonball series. it was such a mismatch of look and culture. i mean what persian has ever been that dark. oh and there are black people in japan. they had one in their national team.

when you look at him closer and compare him with the other FFXIII characters... he kinda look real and not CG... well probably the effect of bieng printed in a JUMP page, find it pretty cool though... and btw any video game character of any race or any color is always cool as long as they can kick ass! who knows? may they'll have a famous "black guy" to voice act on this one... an actor or a singer or a rapper or an athlete... or whatever
