this just brought an idea to my mind.

If pedophiles can be arrested for having loli pictures, which apparently means that they could potentially rape a minor because they're apparently "thinking about it" when they look at such pictures, then shouldn't everyone who looks at any sexual pictures of any kind be arrested because they could "potentially" rape someone? Last I heard, anyone of any age could be raped, not just female minors. So if a lolicon can go to jail for having cartoon pictures of minors, meaning he could be thinking of raping a minor, meaning he's a danger to the public, then everyone should have to go to jail because they could be thinking of raping someone. I haven't seen 1984, that whole thought crime thing, but if people did go to jail for thought crimes, wouldn't literally everyone in the world have to go to jail?

Actually many countries can arest for more than 24h, the catch is that it needs to be declared as a matter of safety for the people or the society itself.
Pedophiles usually are in that case, they are arested if there is something against them.
Before the 24h expires a judge can declare arest for prevention measure which is longer than 24h to... lets say months (depending on country), to gather facts and prepare judgement, preventing the person from running or making the same act again (in case of pedophile for instance).

Don't limit yourself with USA movies :P

Same Anonymous that has been commenting here. Pedophilia is not illegal. It is a sexual attraction to children. Thinking something does not make you a criminal. When that though changes to action, that is when it becomes illegal. Just because someone is attracted to kids, it does not mean that they go molest kids. I mean, you probably are attracted to women, but do you go out and rape them?

I'm not a pedophile, and I hate child molesters as much as anyone, but pedophilia in itself is not illegal and claiming that it is is ignorant and demonstrates a lack of knowledge in regards to law.

In america they arrest or punish somehow i think a 4y old boys for molesting a 6y old girl,touching her butt.Or suspend a 6y old boy from school for touhching the teachers boobs.

I'll agree that thinking about something doesn't equal an action. But by the same token, society views certain kinds of thinking as a sickness that is harmful to others, and takes steps to protect itself. Get caught with a child porn picture and tell the cops that you were 'just thinking about it'. But I guess that's an action, isn't it, like viewing pictures on the web.

Free speech. They can't do anything. People will certainly feel differently about you, but the police can't do anything (well, other than claim you're causing a public disturbance, but that would happen regardless if you run into a police station yelling). What do you think they're going to do? Arrest you? For what? Last time I checked you were innocent until proven guilty. To further prove you wrong, groups such as NAMBLA exist. By your logic all of their members would have been arrested for thoughtcrime by now.
