What's with the "if" anyway? In Japanese, al lot of the time it's indistinguishable from "when", as far as I know. "mada genki ni nattara" for exaple, could mean either, right? Of course it's possible to say it unambiguously in Japanese, but I imagine making it clear there was a chance the author wouldn't recover, there might have been a bigger uproar... So what did it say in the original Japanese announcement?
