DVD Sales Ranking: Strike Witches & Kannagi Dominate

The latest DVD sales figures to emerge, covering the week of the November new release period, are rather interesting to behold, showing as they do the expected success of two of the titles we favour so much here, Kannagi and Strike Witches.

Legend:
Rank / (Overall Rank) / Sales / Total Sales / Weeks Released / Title (LE: Limited Edition)

3 / Strike Witches 3 LE
04 / Gin Tama 4
2 / Natsume Yuujinchou 2
365 3 / Hidamari Sketch 365 3
R2 4 / Code Geass R2 4
(5) / Junjo Romantica 5 LE
*9 (21) *5,720 **5,720 **1  To LOVEる5 / To Love-ru 5
F 4 / Macross Frontier 4

Sanya drives sales of the third Strike Witches DVD, and it seems wretched Kannagi virgin hunters are insignificant in impact after all, or at least bought a DVD for some other reason…

DVD Sales Ranking: Strike Witches & Kannagi Dominate

Incidentally, the lowest ranking anime (which we would be interested in) to feature in the chart is Vampire Kishi 5, with something like 2,500 DVDs sold in the week.

Another point is that big titles like Code Geass might normally have a clear lead, but are conveniently not released in this period, so we are able to savour a 2nd place Kannagi.

Strike Witches is phenomenal! It managed to hang on while Kanagi didn’t.

By the way, wasn’t Yamamoto the one who said that his goal with Kannagi was to beat Clannad? Interesting to see how this’ll turn out.

I wonder when Oricon will start tracking Blu Ray sales, as Code Geass and Macross figures are still quite inaccurate without their Blu Ray sales included.

On a related note, I still can’t believe Sanya lost in the Fakku.net Strike Witches battle (Erica won).

Obviously it must’ve been a full moon, or Beako is bringing about the end of the world, or something.

    Sanya overslept of course.

Yeah I’ve been wondering about that, too.
Macross total numbers may be twice that or more.
Geass is probably like 60% higher.

How is Geass 60% higher adding blueray sales? Has any geass blueray reached a #1 ranking like the all the Frontier ones?

I wouldn’t be surprised if after adding Blueray sales Frontier is equal if not higher to Geass R2.

I may be wrong, but I think you misread his comment as meaning to say Geass sales would be higher than Macross sales? I’m fairly certain he meant to say that both series’ sales would be significantly higher with Blu-Ray sales included, with Geass being “60% higher” than the numbers shown here.

I’m in no position to be certain if that number is accurate, but I do recall seeing talk that for Vol. 1, Macross Blu Ray sales did exceed DVD sales. That may not be true, however.

Considering that the people who left KyotoAnime are the ones behind Kannagi… Then again; compared to a dragon, they’re merely crunchy and good with ketchup.

Here’s a tip though: Dragons are a simple combination of meat and luggage. So, with enough people, you can conquer it.

    (Laughing…) No.

It just means that everyone loves overrated crap.
