Higurashi 2D vs 3D Character Comparison

Here we have an interesting comparison of the differences between the various iterations of the highly successful doujin mixed media franchise that is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

From left to right, we see the anime, movie, original, TMA cosplay AV, PS2 game, fighting game Higurashi Daybreak, and the manga edition.

If you’re interested in seeing more, the latest version of the similar Haruhi comparison chart could well be instructive, and the 2D vs 3D tag is also worthy of reference.

It’s not clear which is considered the superior version; my guess would be the original or the anime?

    Very interesting comparisons. They could have done better with the AV, though. At least get the hairstyles right.
    And the game is Higurashi Daybreak by a doujin soft circle called Tasogare Frontier. Very interesting fighting game, it’s cool how they got the seiyuu from the anime to voice the characters in the game.

    I definitely choose either the original doujin characters or the PS2 game characters over anything else. Hard to choose between those two.

    The original doujin characters and PS2 game characters definitely beat all else. Hard to choose between those two though.

    Each arc of the manga is drawn by a different artist though, so I don’t think that’s a good representation for the manga style as each artist draws pretty differently.

    I feel that it’s kind of useless to have the diffrent mangas for higurashi in this comparison because it’s mostly diffrent mangakas but i guess it’s ok…

    Also the movie was awesome. <3

    Some of them look UGLY in comparison to their 2D counterparts.

    And WTF, get a loli for the loli characters.

    Well, AV industry don’t have much money to hire better looking people maybe

    This also happens in Clonnad, Clannad based AV

    Funny how the anime adaptation looks better than the original game art for a change. The skewedness is hurting my eyes. D;

    TMA’s Mion did a phenomenal job of presenting the character, even if she looks a bit off. In fact, all of TMA was awesome. Even lanky Keiichi. Satoko was cute.
