I have several things to say:
1) IMO WW2 hads nothing to do with disliking shooters. I live in Israel and the favorite game here is counter strike. Even among soldiers.
2) Terry Pratchet said in an interview that he plays FPS, and really liked Half Life...
3) My dad is a 65 years old with Ph.D. in physics, and he's a WoW addict.

I've been playing it for around 5 years now, no sign of stopping either! Quake, yeah, Quake 2, nah, Quake 3, even more nah, but DOOM is always a yeah!

That's a cool old guy right there. I play some FPS games. I heard alot of things about motion sickness in regards to FPS in Japan. But that's probably a large minority as 3rd person games are more dizzying. This article made me think.

Kinda sad to see that only a little of Japanese like him play FPS. I remember joining a Japan server for TF2 and was dominating so much that they kicked me. It was the same with one CS session years back.
They are good with any other game, but not with ones that need a good twitch of the hand. Console shooters like the ones developed for the PlayStation is not the same with the ones that are on the PC. Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, etc, if those were ported to be used with keyboard and mouse, it would be so easy that a newbie can win it on hard. And that's the problem there. They are so used to games like these that rely on the controller, and not the analouge aim of the mouse that they can't figure out why they are getting killed so easily by the Gaijins that join their server.
Granted there are some good FPS players there, but it's kinda hard to find

Well im also more of a sp then a mp.Multi player just waste your time from having chance doing other things and playing other games.But mp can be fun too.

In my case, probably being a really old dude who jumped on the Newest Rock 'N' Roll (video games for our generation, probably some sort of virtual reality RPGs for the kids by then) and was thus declared Cool. So like this guy, but without the accuracy in claims of awesomeness.
