Seriously, the whole idea that cold weather is responsible for advancement is a common but incorrect myth. If that was true, then why were the toga-wearing, no nudity-taboo Greeks and Romans so instrumental to the establishment Western civilization? Why did colder Europe fall behind the hotter Middle East during the Dark Ages? Why was hotter Japan able to modernize more quickly than colder China during the interwar period?

Civilization is a very complex problem, and to quote Mencken, "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." "Cold weather" is one of those clear, simple, and wrong answers.
