Comment on Cosplay Kickboxer: “I Want To Be Strong Like Nanoha’s Vita” by ArcheR:

Damn, Ragu. I’m just speechless. I’m saving your comment somewhere. That’s possibly the strongest argument I’ve ever seen. For anything. “Artificial construct”… Wow.

And seriously, Tyrenol. What is with you? I remember you played the homo card one time before.

Throwing my two cents into the well… Honestly, I understand where there can and should be a difference between men and women, but I’ve never been a fan of this rigid line that gets drawn by – as Ragu said – “sexually insecure alpha male types”. They have to feel dominant, so they gravitate towards things 98% of women either don’t do, won’t do, can’t do, or just aren’t allowed to do.

The superiority complex just bothers me. Anything that doesn’t fit this mold of perfect masculinity is labelled gay instantly.

Why so sensitive, guys? …Did your balls fall off?*

(* That’s a Joker/Dark Knight reference, for any trolls who think I’m insulting them.)

Hexa, you hit the nail on the head and yet completely missed the point. It IS an illusion, and that’s EXACTLY why FF13 failed. As gamers, we like the illusion of choice. We depend on it. Western RPGs make their entire designs about this illusion. Despite all the branching choices you can make, you can still only move within the set parameters of what has been programmed. But the sheer volumes of choices makes the illusion very strong. This is also what sandbox games are built around by creating …

Dragon Age: Origins and Final Fantasy 13 are basically equal in how much they were letdowns. I know a few Bioware fanboys who absolutely RAGED over how they dumbed down or screwed up the ruleset in Dragon Age, how many of the dialogue options were so archaically cliched and corny, or how the branching options had nonsensical consequences that majorly hurt their progress. On the other side, we’ve seen just how much FF13 has its own issues. So, what about Dragon Age: Origins? We haven’t forgotten …

Because, first, Final Fantasy does NOT equal Japanese RPGs. You’re missing the rest of Square non-FF catalog, the Tales series, anything by Nippon Ichi Software, as well as the ENTIRE Atlus catalog. Which are all wildly different games. If you base statements on Final Fantasy alone, you don’t know how wide the playerbase, gameplay, and storytelling in JRPGs really is. Second, if you want to support a point, be smart: Don’t ADMIT you only played a tiny amount of the games for less than even an …
