What might be your reaction be upon entering a train and being confronted with this spectacle? Horror, or an immediate dash to Haruhi to start taking pictures?
Normal cosplay is one thing, but this is a little different. More on one of their excusions below:
For some reason when looking at these images I was reminded of the otaku terror ranking; in case you need relief, there are also plenty of “normal” cosplay galleries of quality to recover with.
I am left wondering about the gender of the mask genre of cosplayers… Would these usually be male or female? There seem to be both in evidence…

Kinda scary….
I thought I knew what terror was, until just now. That is absolutely horrifying. I would run to the doors, pounding my fists upon them and screaming “dear god, get me of this damn train.” and when my pointless attempts to get of the now moving train fail, I will fall to my knees, crying from the sheer mental agony.
…
Seriously, what the fucking hell?
Alice is a man, baby.
…
It’s hard to decide what’s worse, the scarily bad ones, or the scarily good ones. At least the well-done ones are just that, even if they are bloody weird. The bad ones, especially no-face, make me want to eat my own eyes.
30 and 31 are actually not as bad as most of the others, if still a tad creepy.
now this is scary…. like the twilight zone!!
If I could get a male mask/costume, I would so do that =D
Usually identify masked cosplayers as females, but I’ve never looked closely and there must be a good number of effeminate traps I didn’t recognize…
Why cant they see how scary they really are! the least scary one was the spirited away ghost and hes supposed to be creepy!
this is so creepy…
I’d try to strike up conversation with some of them.
some of them had some broad shoulders… I would definitely not get on that train.
at first was cute… after a while it started to be creppy
I found it hilarious how that one guy taking pictures with them was smiling like a jackass.
agreed. although i can’t say that he’s actually ‘happy’!
2D SHOULD STAY 2D
I liked the final image D:
I hate to bring up bad memories…
October of last year gave us the “Gaijin Train;” where a bunch of disorderly and drunk non-Asian foreigners caused havoc at subway stops and such.
I’m usually all for a little Kigurumi, but I am officially creeped out.
At first I lol’d then I got scared TAT
I like the last photo though =3
This hole… it was made for me
Even creepier when you consider just how many of those are actually guys.
AHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve seen them before just at this year’s anime con here. I was in the pool and a Photographer just came in with a “girl” with purple, and swimsuit taking photos. Her head was a bit wider then the ones in the pictures up there tho. The face was generic O_O
This seems to be a specific genre of cosplay.
Does anyone know if it has a name, or are they just “mask cosplayers”?
It also seems this has a large cross-dressing contingent, I wonder if that is the main reason for it?
I believe it’s called Kigurumi.
That’d be Kigurumi, you can see some of them holding a sign on the train that reads きぐハレっ!
I’ve no idea what the male/female split is, but I do have a suspicion that it’s male-skewed. My visit to the Cosmate stores in Akiba and Shinjuku further reinforced this suspicion.
Sit down carefully, and then wave at them, allowing a 2nd pic of them all waving back
I’m 100% sure those are bodies of males.
It could be a guy under there but man thats freaky.
I hate manga more and more each day that passes. Especially main-stream-no-fantasy manga such as the sources of these painfully horrible outfits. *personal opinion*
Creepy…Thats way too much for me to handle lol. Does someone have a double barrel shotgun?? Might need to use one >_>
I wonder what will I really do, if in real life I step on that train,.,.
Run away?
sit far away from them?
or I will talk to them and ask where to buy that kigurumi…
Trap? Could ID quite a few obvious dudes, but theres some that MIGHT be girls.
scary…
however clothes are well done
Thank god they didn’t pose or show their cute pantsu with male organ……
This’d freak me out a bit. I’d probably scare them too though when I started speaking Japanese lol
It’s not scary at all. I’ll be only scared if all of them are traps. XD
This kind of cosplay is kinda creepy to me. Too weird.
Some of them looks cute, anyway. However, other ones looks almost like Yukkuris > <
at first i thought, wow this train is filled with dutch wives……. and then i was like HOLY SH*T THOSE ARE REAL PEOPLE.
this only serves as further evidence that the anime-world to real-world conversion doesn’t work out too good
Yes, something should never be done. It’s against human kind.
Agreed
2D SHOULD stay 2D
I would be highly amused and stare at them.. the last one is pretty good.
i actually like it and i’d do some of them, though hearing about they could be traps scared me :(
Well… Kinda funny
My eyes… THEY HURTS X_X
Ok, last pic looks good, and appears to be a chick.
If I’d gotten onto that train, I’d do a Souske Sagara and leap out the fucking window of the moving train and tumble across hard concrete.
creepy….
eh hehe heh, No-Face!!!
This is way creepy………
But I will admit, the No-Face costume looked pretty cool
Looks like a great idea for a Doctor Who episode.
So pretty! *_* And feels just as natural! Nothing like those stupid anime-photoshops of real faces. Normal cosplay is GROSS, compared to this.
P.S. Kimono girl’s face not very good, though, but not too bad.
What if thay are mens… (0_o)
2D mask 3D men…..
shampoo i can see you/////shes my fav
This fall…
You thought true terror was Snakes On A Plane.
But now we bring you.
Kigurumi On A Train. Coming soon to a theater near you.
I think I’m going to cry now.
Am I the only one who really likes this cosplay? I would totally love to be on that train. I think it’s rather cute and not creepy at all ^_^
Nope. Most of them are well done, even if it is a trap underneath…tho I have seen FAR worse before.
No you aren’t alone. I like it too! :D
And I don’t care if they’re male or female. Would be nice to see them in reality. ^^
I think THIS is real cosplay. Better than the normal. ^^
I never thought this day would come but actually I knew in my heart that it could happen and it has! To me this is bliss, now I need to date one that is female. It would be nicer if this gallery got an add on with other female characters from anime like code geass………..I want a C.C.

This is of the most scariest things I’ve ever seen in my life. X.X
to me its not really scary but i kinda dont like it… its like having a giant figure that is running around, don’t get me wrong im a big figure lover and collector but a unchanging face with a frozen expression just isn’t suited for cosplay, you can make nice pictures with the well made ones but you could exchange them with 1/1 figures in that pictures anytime
This is definitely some uncanny valley material here.
I like Kigurumi. That picture was beautiful.
Did I level up my weeboo class yet?
they seriously need to make this into a movie. these are the “zombies” of tomorrow’s cinema.
Good thing there not here in Scotland…
omg…, i dont know which one is more scary, the fact that they are strange or the posibility that under those clothes… there is a man
oh God; you KNOW that they are all male, that’s the part that makes you want to take a shower in denatured alcohol..
58th pic looks like she was pointing a middle finger or picking nose with that huge finger lol
It’s a sad day when the noh looks to be the most normal/friendly one.
I am convinced, this is what otaku hell looks like. This is what we have to look forward to. Nothing but men dressed in dull emotionless plastic masks.
