downside: slight body fat will turn your custom-made cheongsam into something unwearable, Kimono and Yukata doesnt have those kind of problem though XD

But I don't think the question of which is better really needs determining. Both can obviously be enjoyed in tandem, which is clearly the best way to go about it.

I think the allure for China dresses is first, how well they accentuate even slight curves (no doubt advantageous for the native wearers of the fashion), and at least in anime-manga media, how it emphasizes the leg and thighs, without necessarily going to panty-shot immodesty (though that happens a lot).

With kimonos and yukatas in particular, I think the allure is more how it's simultaneously modest and immodest. *Most* of them are fairly modest, in so far that they don't accentuate or emphasis curvature (unless the person is so "curvy" that it can no longer be helped), while at the same time they are obviously very easy to take apart, lacking very much that's solid keeping it together.

There is however, a similar emphasis on the legs, but usually not as much one as the china dress.
