Otaku Demand Right to Wed 2D Characters

Otaku Demand Right to Wed 2D Characters - SOS-dan Brides Nagato, Haruhi and Mikuru

Otaku have petitioned the government for the right to marry 2D characters.

The online petition in question:

“We’ve no interest in the 3D. If we could, we’d like to live in a 2D world. However, with current technology, this is not possible. So at the very least, can we have marriage to 2D characters legally recognised? If this were to come to pass, I intend to marry Asahina Mikuru.”

The most interesting comment we see in response is this:

“I’ve been married to Arcueid of Tsukihime for five years now. I’ve no doubt that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. As someone who lives in two dimensions, I’d very much like to support this measure!”

Via Gigazine.

Currently the measure has 530 supporters, with a million seemingly being the target for it to be presented to the diet, should they tear themselves away from trying to ban 2D characters for long enough to hear it.

Japan already has one of the lowest birth rates, at least as far as first world countries go. The ratio in Tokyo is less than 1 child per family, with a little over 1 for Japan as a whole. At this rate, the Japanese are due to become extinct.

Okay, now this is just stupid. Yes, we all have had fantasies about sexing up anime babes. But I won't even purchase a body pillow. Even I have standards. To be honest, I'd rather marry a seiyuu like Aya Hirano or Shoko Nakagawa, except that I'm sure that they both have extremely protective boyfriends and being an American, I probably wouldn't have a chance with either one, or any Japanese woman for that matter. Plus, with a real woman, you don't have to worry about getting papercuts on your junk...

Coming from an obsessed anime artist/character designer's veiw, I wouldn't allow it. Actually, if they want to MARRY a character, shouldn't they ask the character's mother or father? (Aka, creator) Because they're the original voice behind it...

But still I don't know what self respecting Manga/anime creator would allow that O__o

Well...gotta say, this is a surprise.

If I were to speak positively on the matter, I'dsay that for one thing, it frees Mikuru from the torment she regularly gets from Haruhi. Secondly, I'd probably pick Kula Diamond or Big Boss if I was homosexual.

But I'm not exactly fully supportive of this. For one thing, his mental health is in question. He's gonna die alone, and his wife will do nothing to help. A sad thing, eh?

Course, this isn't the first time Japanhas taken anime seriously. Remember that big funeral they had for Raoh from Fist of the North Star?

This wouldn't work unless the copyright holder agreed to create an avatar/character for the husband, and even then, it would have to be something that the wife character would be interested in romantically... or, they could make the character exactly like the real life person, and then the copyright holder can create a story, deciding what happens. But I don't believe in inter-dimensional relationships. The real life person doesn't exist in the character's universe, and vice versa. Hm, that gives me another idea. The copyright holder could choose an actor to cosplay the character, and act exactly like it at all times, and the copyright holder can declare this person the official 3d representation of the character, but this is less feasible than the first idea. But most likely, the copyright holder would not agree to either of the 2 options in the first place.

    10:34 07/05/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Surely the only way for it to be consensual would be for the author of the manga to actually write him into the story - I presume there'd be teary eyes and tender confessions all round. The guy would probably have to be consulted so he could be accurately depicted in the manga (but is that a good idea?). Then he could dictate to the author about the sweet life he wants to share with his new wife. I imagine the author would charge a premium for this service...
It opens up a pretty disturbing idea - authors creating manga about yourself on demand, and a fantasy life created just for you :)

Yes, because having different views about life is very retarded. SO WHAT if peope prefer the 2 dimension?

Being an otaku isnt exclusive to anime either. If you read a lot of books, you can be considered a book otaku, so calling otakus "retards" is pretty much calling everyone who has a hobby a retard.

And what about someone who CAN meet real girls, but just prefers anime girls? I see that more like a personal preference than a creepy obsession.

There's another article on here somewhere stating that in Enlgand, at least, fictional entities have rights, which is why the illegalized loli manga. By the same logic it should be possible to marry 2d characters, not that either idea makes any sense without AIs to replicate their personalities. And the www is coming anyway, with or without weird stuff.

    I have a solution.

Make it legal but, seeing as marriage requires the consent of 2 agreeing peoples, argue that although legal, a 2d character cannot talk for itself, or act out an answer, and so cannot consent to the marriage.

This being said, it would be legal, but still legally impossible.

I dont think they have to argue anything. Japan would be the laughing stock of the world if they actually take this seriously. Its too pathetic for me to even be disgusted, I can only laugh. Anyways, I already claimed 80% of all 2-D girls so there's no point in them petitioning.

I think this is a great idea. I'm willing to bet none of the guys who replied to this article have the slightest idea what it means to grow up without friends. In elementary and middle school ,anime characters were the only interaction I had. The 2D women understands perfectly her role ;she is not arrogant, religious,a slut, or a prude. If japanese women had stayed on the true path;Japan wouldn't have such crappy birthrates and stuff like this wouldn't be necessary.

Have you considered the actions of japanese men? Why should women be held entirely responsible for the same misdeeds you commit? Perhaps you should realize that the reason you don't have any friends is because you are unlovable.... Japan would have better birthrates if you were to make yourself into a person that people wanted to be with, or be friends with. I recommend psycho-therapy, and lots of it.

Therefore, the obvious solution is a televised mega death match between all otaku for the hand of the maiden. I'd watch a bunch of geeks fight to the death. That sounds like good tv. They get what they want, and i get a few days of dead people per anime character.
