I think the OVA is a happy companion to the series. The OVA has the same lazy animation and otaku laughs of the series and its happy to be nothing but. The only difference you can really find is that the OVA has a bit more of Kyoto's super quality you find in its other series and none of the stories are from the original strips.
It's just two episodes stuck together, and it wouldn't be Lucky Star if it was anything more.

Personally speaking, I am inclined to think Lucky Star (and for that matter, Haruhi), are highly overrated for what they actually contain, though likely nobody could reasonably accuse them of actually being bad titles.

I was being balanced but critical throughout, which is more than most will attempt with respect to this title, I suspect.

As far as expectations go, the only one of any note I had personally (as opposed to the ones I reported on) was for a much shorter title, in which I was pleasantly surprised.

You should probably give some thought to the possibility that I evaluated the title on its merits, and personally was not hugely impressed, rather than assume I was upset by the anime.

My critical opinion is not the same as my personal opinion, however.

As I said, this is just what fans of the series are looking for, and likely will not disappoint them. It has everything the original series had, and more.

I can't help but sense a rather jaded attitude in this particular OVA review. Did you not like the otaku-baiting? But you also said the normal scenes were boring, so you actually wanted more nerd-culture references??

It just seems like your expectations were so mixed up that the OVA was bound to disappoint. Can Lucky Star really be at fault for being over-hyped? At least half the blame should be pointed at ourselves, for building up something in our minds beyond the scope of reasonable expectations.

Put another way, I'm glad I followed Suzumiya Haruhi and Gurren Lagann when they first began their TV run w/out reading too many blogs and message boards, and I was able to thoroughly enjoyed each for what they uniquely offered. Who knows what kind of unworldly expectations I would've developed from listening to the superfans (Haruhi cures cancer?! Nia solves world hunger!!! ZOMG).
