Some of these seem to be stockings rather than knee socks, a few even with garters attached.
You’re quite right, but it seems the Vippers are happy with all going under “knee socks”, so who am I to argue?
Thigh-high might be a better catchall, but I never hear it in Japanese.
Actually I just came back from japan, spent july there, on summer. You can see girls with those socks everywere, it’s pretty common *-*
