More of the at times improbably beautiful modern seiyuu; it is little wonder the number turning their hand to a spot of idolling has been increasing, or it is it instead the case that lately idolisable seiyuu are the ones landing the prominent roles?
Aww, Kugimiya Rie. I wouldn’t call her beautiful, but she’s definitely very cute.
I think Hirano Aya (or Miyano Mamoru/Fukuyama Jun/etc. though it seems a bit different for guys) is a good example of how it works - seiyuu plays a popular character in a hit anime (or constantly plays popular-type characters), she becomes famous, and if she’s presentable the idol-making machine starts working on her.
Thanks for this wonderful selection of photos. Especially the pics of Kadowaki Mai. And who is the girl in the check dress, twelve pics from the bottom?
I know I’m too sensitive over the many slights to Hirano Aya, but it always disappoints me when she is used as an example of a talentless idol, as kuromitsu seems to imply. She’s an excellent seiyuu, even if she does have an idiosyncratic style, and an adequate singer who can rock, unlike almost all other seiyuu. And she’s a lot more than “presentable,” in my opinion, especially compared to somewhat odd-looking beauties like Nana-chan, Hocchan, Yukarin, etc. She’s like Inoue Marina’s prettier cousin, it seems to me. Aya’s last DVD was Oricon’s top-selling idol DVD of the first half of 2008.
I always wonder why Gotou Saori isn’t more popular, considering how good a performer she is and also how gorgeous she is (except in that one photo in profile, lol).
Er, I didn’t mean to imply that Hirano was talentless, sorry if it came across as such. I just used her as an example of how I think a seiyuu becomes an idol.
..okay, so beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But srsly, “presentable” sounds like a compliment to me, doesn’t it mean “better/not-worse than average-looking”? And why the need to make comparison to, er, odd-looking beauties? @__@
Lovely Noto Mamiko and Inoue Marina collection, btw.
