Some celebrations are in order for followers of the most visually sumptuous and innovative anime of recent years, to say nothing of its biting satire, as details of a new OVA release of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei have emerged, to be titled 獄・さよなら絶望先生 / Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goku meaning jail, but seemingly punning on 極 / Goku, meaning exceedingly).
Quoth the official site: “Has there ever been such a reckless project? Limited Edition Comic with included Original Animation DVD announced!”
Yes, it is an extra to a manga. So it would seem in fact to be the other way round, but they are masterfully toying with us? This confusion is doubtless part of their scheme…Or maybe it really will be a cheap half baked OVA?
Release details are as follows: first volume (上) is set to release on October 17th 2008, and the second volume (下) is due to go on sale Febuary 17th, 2009. Both are strictly limited editions, so expect to be downloading them.
Both are priced at ¥3,470, with pre-orders opening some months before the release.
No details on length, but the original cast will reprise their roles. So this will have to tide us over until a new season?
