Well, a lot of those girls are cosplaying super cute character so they're gonna have cute expressions. The pictures at the beginning feature less of this, and have more interesting poses and faces. As for "looking nothing like the characters". I'm sorry, do YOU have saucer eyes that take up have your face and a line for a nose? Didn't think so.
